Dave Aronberg on Morning Joe: All the talk re: what can happen is to discourage & demoralize Dems
the Atlantic article suggesting what may happen https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2020/11/what-if-trump-refuses-concede/616424/
influencing trump-supporting electors, etc. is to prevent voters from voting, essentially saying all this will happen so why even bother. Aronberg, State Attorney for Palm Beach County FL, said best thing is get out & VOTE. He doesn't seem too concerned about it. I agree. Let's not make all the noise discourage & distract us. We do what we can within our control: VOTE! The Repugs cannot break the will of the people. ![]() ![]()

Yes, talk about demoralized, it sure happened here a couple of days ago.
And the truth of it, if you unroll it piece by piece, state Law by state law...it would have to have so much come together.....it’s just highly highly improbable |

10. I think it may be possible that some (much) of this election stealing rhetoric
coming from trump's side may be aimed at consoling the presidents hopes and keep him form absolutely freaking out and losing his mind. They're speaking to an audience of one. He has to believe he is totally screwed when he is out of office and I can only imagine where he would be right now mentally if he thought the jig was up.

13. I believe so
Trump is trying to discourage Democrats from voting by trying to make it seem as if our votes won't matter and our voices will be silenced by the courts. He's trying to get those who do not normally participate but might this election to reconsider and stay home.
For years, in my GOTV efforts, I've met people who believe that it's not worth their time because their votes will not be counted. This happens a lot in my immigrant communities, with people who have experienced sham elections or who grew up skeptical of the electoral process. This strategy of Trump, I believe is born from data collected through micro-targeting and is geared towards those kinds of skeptics. I'm not saying Trump will not try this tactic but I do not believe he will be successful. The media is assisting Trump by promulgating this theory. People are fired up and ready to participate in this election and Trump is trying to water down this momentum. We need to find a way to convince people that Trump's efforts will not be successful and that it is still worth the effort to cast their votes. |

17. Might this not have the opposite effect?
Our side is massively energized this year. Meanwhile, Republicans are seeing the polls and deep down they know Donny is in trouble. But now he’s telling them “Don’t worry about it, I’ll still be president even if Biden wins.”
So doesn’t he risk depressing his OWN turnout? What is their incentive to go to the polls if God Emperor doesn’t even need votes to beat Biden? Plus this stinks of classic Trump — promise people the moon (“The vote count is irrelevant because I have a secret way to win!”), then massively underdeliver and quietly slink away to the next con. |

Of course they know he's in trouble. But this rabid base will do whatever they can to help the Con stay in power. We know the Serial Liar w/ all his bogus promises is not to be trusted. The one thing we can do and do well is turn our en masse & kick him out of office, kicking & screaming no doubt

And there's no evidence that it's making voters not want to vote.
You literally have state party officials on the record on this. Forewarned is forearmed, and the solution to stopping it is winning in a blowout, which encourages maximize voting. |

31. Exactly. We're not discouraged by these speculations/possibilities BUT
we can't ignore them.
State senators in PA are actually contemplating the possibility of denying their voters. We don't need to set our hair on fire, but we must be ready and being ready means being aware of what Trump might pull. By the way, he might pull different cons in different states. |

35. I've heard Biden has built a huge team of lawyers in every state. Seems the campaign has learned
from 2016 lessons & taking precaution so far. If Dems & sensible people vote en masse no amount of rigging can overcome that. I do believe the blowout scenario someone posted the other day - that once west coast states' results have been posted Biden will be the clear winner. Let's hope we have that happy day

Won't change a damn thing. Constitution law states the president elect takes office automatically January 20th no matter what. All that inauguration and swearing in is purely ceremonial. At midnight Biden takes residence and if he doesn't leave he's an intruder and will be dealt with accordingly. There are checks and balances in place to ensure transition of power

34. That's been going on in all corners of the Internet. Many FUD spreaders.
Many hand-wringers. Many "predicting" (promoting?) their doomsday scenarios. Many expressing regret, doubts, fears... and I have to tell you, those types of posts go far beyond the mere act of "seeking comfort" among like-minded individuals. They, instead, are doing little more than fear-mongering and trying to DE-motivate people. I even see it here from time to time.
All I'm trying to say is that we should be on the lookout for it. Call it out when you see it. Don't let it get to you and pour cold water on it so that their toxic way of thinking doesn't spread to others. It serves NO useful purpose at all. It's just another example of how people are oddly willing to do and say things that create an atmosphere of fear and hopelessness and negativity. Negativity generates apathy. Apathy discourages voter turnout. Low voter turnout gives Republicans a chance to steal the elections. ![]() |
