Are they supposed to reward him for putting another Justice on the Supreme Court? I don't think so. Many Republicans will vote for Trump if they believe they have a chance for another Justice but they will not vote for him if they already have the Justice. What would be the purpose?
Republican women (many in the suburbs) that are pro-choice, will have no reason to vote for Trump if he fills the position with a radical right-to-lifer.
Many Republicans that despise Trump for his inhumane actions and his lack of morality (such as the Lincoln Project) have already declared against Trump and the Republicans. Many more Republicans than we know may be in this group?
It is difficult to see how they increase their numbers by pushing thru this nominee. Those that support pushing thru the SC nominee are already in Trump's corner.
If they lose the Senate, this will be the reason. McConnell cares more about keeping the Senate than he does a SC Justice, in my opinion. He is a turtle. He will be slow to come to a decision.

(5,042 posts)Trump could hold his whole election over the head of red state America, but he's cashing in his chips early.
Meanwhile McConnell knows he's probably lost three seats already. He has no reason to wait.

(24,223 posts)drumpf intends to have the SCOTUS steal the office for him - he said as much at his rally. He'll get SCOTUS to say that counting ends on 11/3 and mailed in votes can't be counted so he wins. If he gets another traitor on the court, he will be right and you know the asshole wouldn't recuse herself either, that will be part of the deal - you can bet on it. That is what is keeping me up at nights.

The courts won't destroy/stop counting military ballots and they won't destroy the other VBM ballots either as there would no way to distinguish the two

(3,282 posts)There is some marginal numbers of people who would have voted for Trump in order to get a conservative justice in place of RBG, who won't vote for him now the the seat will be filled before the election.
There are voters who don't like Trump but want republican judges. The numbers may be small, but it's out there.
I think that number is certain to be bigger than the number of voters this process will win them.

(2,187 posts)The righties are already licking their chops over Breyer's seat with him being 83, so some may still be motivated to turn out. The talk of expanding the court isn't going to help either. On the upside, the bulk of their base doesn't pay that much attention to details like that.
