If Clarence Thomas is thinking of retiring, he's got a decision to make...soon. If

he stays on the Court and Trump loses, he may be stuck there for another 8 years. My bet is that he will announce his retirement and give Trump the seat. Tell me what's wrong with my thinking.

4. I wonder about that...I think she may be happy to have him off the Court so

she's more free to spew her venom. She's probably saying "Clarence, you've had your fun, now it's my turn."

20. She hasn't exactly restrained herself...

...and being higher-profile would probably be detrimental to her.

But that's logical thinking, which doesn't necessarily apply to narcissistic zealots.

19. I disagree, she would prefer the Benjamin's IMO.

If he retires he will get 100% of his salary in pension and he would be free to make millions in appearance fees.

Other justices are more interested in being part of the history of judicial history but I don't think Thomas is not motivated by such esoteric concerns.

3. If he really wanted to do that, he would have retired in June.

Or the year before. Not barely 40 days before the election.

27. I think the problem is Scalia is not around to tell him when to retire, right?

When Scalia was around didn't Clarence just pretty much say, "Yeah, wHat he said." ??

9. His hate/anger will prevent him from retiring. He's on there for life.

He is still steaming mad about his confirmation hearings exposing him to the world as a sexual harrasser.

10. Very few Supreme Court justices retire.

They either don't want to give up the power or they decide to retire but wait too long and don't live long enough to make it to the next oppertunity.

If Thomas wanted to retire the time to do it would have been the summer. The polls were bad for Trump and it was far enough away from the election to not cause issues. So the fact that he didn't likely means he intends to stay. It could happen but I would put money on him not retiring.

30. Makes sense. This also has to be a very hopeful time for the

court's most conservative justice as the prospect of a shift to domination by him and others in a far right bloc grows.

Not enough time for action with the RBG seat coming first.

18. His wife would lose that $800K/year job.

Being married to a retired SC justice is not worth as much as being married to a sitting SC justice.

He's not going anywhere.

29. I've always looked at her as

riding on her husband's coattails. I hate saying that about a woman, but really what relevance does she offer other than having a hubby who is a Justice that her cronies can name-drop, or get her to manipulate.

Not that he needs help in rendering an awful SCOTUS vote.

Once he is off the bench, will she be as popular?
