Biden will not visit Kenosha on Monday

Joe Biden is not expected to visit Kenosha, Wis. on Monday, despite mounting pressure following Donald Trumpís announcement over the weekend that he planned to go there Tuesday.

Two sources with knowledge of the former vice presidentís travel discussions say that while Biden is expected to travel, he will steer clear of the pivotal Midwestern battleground state on Monday. He is expected to address the rising tensions stemming from the unrest in Portland and Kenosha.

The thinking, according to these people, is that Trumpís trip to Kenosha could backfire on the president. The Biden campaign is ramping up its messaging that the unrest in the city and elsewhere is an outgrowth of the president's rhetoric that inflames racial tensions.

Trump announced a trip to Kenosha as he attempted to claim credit for calm on the streets of Kenosha after he made a call to bring in the National Guard.

1. tRump was unwilling to visit places hard hit by Corona

Smart move by Team Biden, in my opinion.

I also think that Biden should point that out.

2. If Trump's visit does backfire, maybe then Biden should go.

But he shouldn't go first.

3. I agree. It seems like a prudent strategy. If the past is any reflection of the future in regard

trump, trump will be his own worse enemy

It also allows Biden to rebut trump if he drops the ball

4. Letting DT go first will let Joe impress upon the people of Kenosha the HUGH difference there is

between him & the JA!

9. +1000. Trump is clearly making it a campaign photo op, and making it about HIM.

Joe is trying to make this about Kenosha, which may mean delaying his visit until after Trump leaves.

He then can show just how differently he handles the situation.

5. Good counter strategy by Biden here

Going to Kenosha adds fuel to the fire and keeps the story alive. In the end, this is a local matter and should not be in presidential politics other than to discuss the broader issue of reforming the police.

7. I'm Glad Everyone Here Is So Confident

If Biden loses Wisconsin, and it makes a difference, this will be pointed to as a reason.

Hopefully it doesn't matter.

8. And if he's percieved as reducing this to a campaign photo OP, it could also

work against him.

He's trying to NOT be Trump here, who is making it all about his campaign.

But your concern is noted.

12. None of us that's for sure. But its sad to see posts that offer legitimate critiques

of the campaign being met with attacks, just as I saw here countless times in 2016.

13. It's Not Like I'm Alone In My Opinion

I saw a lot of others saying the same thing late last week. Steve Schmidt was on MSNBC Friday saying that Joe should go there over the weekend.

Drumpf loves the optics and media attention, and he got it with his visit today.

Sometimes I think our side wants to have a tight race. A "healing" trip to Wisconsin by Biden seemed like such an easy thing, but now we'll have to hope that Drumpf doesn't get the positive reaction he's hoping for.

14. "Sometimes I think our side wants to have a tight race. "

LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE SAYING IT......

Maybe they have communicated with people in Kenosha about the best and worst times to do this. Maybe they know what they're doing.

But your concern and lack of confidence in "our side" is noted.

20. To Our Side, That's What It Will Come Across As

The average American just knows what they see on TV, and so the average person won't spend time trying to interpret it.

They will only see how Drumpf went and visited Wisconsin.

I'm sorry you don't think there's reason for "concern" about EVERYTHING between now and January 20. It's no big deal, right?

21. The "concern" that I'm referring to is not 'interest" as much as

"The Democratic Party can't do anything right" brand of concern that doesn't do any good, doesn't promote any real discussion, and seems to indicate that someone wants people to needlessly doubt the validity of a candidate.

Is that clearer?

It sounds like you think anyone who doesn't share this "Oh, no... Dems are screwing this up again" wringing of hands with youmust be ignoring what's going on, and isn't concerned about anything...

A false dilemma (or sometimes called false dichotomy) is a type of informal fallacy, more specifically one of the correlative-based fallacies, in which a statement falsely claims an "either/or" situation, when in fact there is at least one additional logically valid option.

22. When the city mayor

is begging you not to show up.

Why do you think going into that town with a political circus is going to be a good idea? What in Trumps history makes you think that he can come out of this moment looking good to the average person?

I think most people will see this for what it is, political grandstanding. His church photo-op a couple of months ago didn't work, I doubt this comes off any better.

25. Ignoring the request of the Mayor of Kenosha would be a political stunt, and not "healing" at all

Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian tells CNN's Pamela Brown that it is "too soon" for President Trump or Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden to be visiting the city.

https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2020/08/31/kenosha-mayor-john-antaramian-biden-trump-visit-too-soon-ebof-sot-vpx.cnn

But by all means, contact the campaign and tell them that contradicting the mayor's request would be a good idea for Biden, especially when Trump is doing exactly that.

23. There is a difference in the way a legitimate critique is presented and the

"sometimes I think our side just wants a tight race/ to lose" "Dems in disarray" handwringing that is just seeking company.

26. The mayor of Kenosha has said that this is not the time for either candidate to visit the city.

I'm glad to see that our candidate has the sensitivity to respect the residents and not proceed knowing that it would be a crass campaign stop if he did.
