Kanye West Off Ballot in Four States, Easing Any Risk to Biden

(Bloomberg) -- Voters in three more states won’t see Kanye West on their ballots for president this year.

Election officials in Ohio, Illinois and West Virginia ruled Friday that the rapper, who announced in July he was running for president as an independent, didn’t qualify to appear on their state ballots. The rulings came a day after Wisconsin officials decided that West wasn’t eligible for that battleground state’s ballot.

Several news outlets have reported that the late bid by West, 43, to get on the ballot in several states is being helped by Republican lawyers or operatives with the hope he could siphon votes from Democratic nominee Joe Biden to help President Donald Trump’s re-election bid.

In her speech to the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, former First Lady Michelle Obama alluded to West’s fledgling spoiler campaign. “This is not the time to withhold our votes in protest, or play games with candidates who have no chance of winning,” she said.

Not sure he was ever much a threat.

1. He's on the ballot in Iowa, thanks to the GOP.

All six of his electors are registered repugs.

2. Wisconsin's the big news here, the others, not so much...

The fact is, Illinois is going to go blue anyway, West Virginia has been the deepest red possible ever since Democrats passed the Civil Rights Acts, and Ohio has been slipping away from swing-state status into the Republican column for the past couple of decades. West's presence or absence from the ballot in those three states is unlikely to make a bit of difference. Wisconsin, on the other hand, is crucial. Hopefully, we'll see similar results in other swing states.

5. Kayne

He’s crazy. I’m sorry but he needs help, not being used by Kushner and the republicans.

8. Kanye West's Campaign Unraveling

Jared is not boing to be happy https://politicalwire.com/2020/08/22/kanye-wests-campaign-unraveling/

New York Magazine: “In a span of two days, West was booted from the ballot in five states: Illinois, Montana, Ohio, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. In Illinois, Montana, and West Virginia, it was because he filed an insufficient number of valid signatures. In Wisconsin, it was because West did not file on time. In Ohio, the information and signature on West’s nominating petition and his statement of candidacy did not match those on petitions circulated to be signed.”

“West has filed in several other states in this week: Louisiana, Minnesota, Tennessee, and Virginia, but it is unclear if he will ultimately qualify to appear on the ballot in all of them. West may face particular issues in Virginia, where seven of the thirteen electors that West submitted told Intelligencer they were either unaware that they signed up to cast electoral votes on his behalf, or that they had signed notarized paperwork connected to the rapper’s presidential bid at all.”
