More shenanigans: Mailbox openings are being locked shut
So it looks like the GOP and trump are still playing gotcha games. They claim they won't remove anymore mailboxes, but will the mailboxes be functional???

38. It's all part of the plan...
We caught them, they are saying they will remove no more drop boxes (I don't believe them), so the lock them up. No mention about putting the ones already removed, BACK. The sorters have already faded. Are THEY going to be put back? (It is really hard to put back one that has been destroyed, and they won't be bothered to pull the ones out that are still in the dumpster...)
When questioned about the locks, they will say it is only done after dark to keep people from stealing mail (when it has never been a problem before in that area). Aren't all these problem areas where democrats are predominate? It gives them justification, and STILL accomplishes EXACTLY what they set out to do. Meanwhile, the dems are "considering" coming back from recess (when everything is now being done virtually) to issue some sternly worded letters and a threat of subpoenas. While simultaneously the republican senators really don't give a shit, and can't be made to do anything. And how many days is it until the election? |

42. Well, I just read a NYT article saying if the post office slows things down, it'll hurt GOPers more
than Democrats.
Maybe we ought to be encouraging that. Most states that we need have Ballot Drop Boxes. GOPers can use the "crippled" PO, while we take our ballots to the drop boxes, or at least request ballots early and mail them back immediately. "Which Party Would Benefit Most From Voting by Mail? "It’s Complicated -- Conventional wisdom has been that Democrats are more likely to benefit from voting by mail. But that’s not what research has shown." https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/25/us/vote-by-mail-coronavirus.html |

24. OK. The twitter user needs to check again tomorrow during business hours
and update everyone on the situation. It's possible some of us are becoming too paranoid, but it could be a brilliant strategy for the GOP, as it would be hard for people to prove to others that it's happening for the wrong reasons. Any locked boxes that were outed on social media could be opened back up on a case by case basis. That would take tremendous organization though... so hopefully you're right and there is nothing nefarious going on.

29. I'll vouch for this
I'm in the East Long Beach/Lakewood area (very middle class, not high crime, altho' it's been getting worse) and we have had the mailboxes in our neighborhoods and at the actual PO changed to this kind of system. For at least a couple of years there have been increasing problems with people stealing mail out of the old style mailboxes--the kind with either drive up chutes or the pull open door at the top. You would to to put mail in either one and the entire openings would be full of sticky 'goop'. What was explained to us that complained, was that thieves would use wire, or other long implements with sticky substances on them, and essentially, fish for mail. That was the chute style. For the pull down door style, the sticky stuff would catch envelopes that were just tossed in and the person didn't check. So the mail piece would not fall down, but stick inside the door area.
So, now our outside boxes have either been removed or replaced with the kind in the photos that lock--yes at 5pm, or ones that have just a narrow slot that even has kind of a lip on it. And you really have to bend down and look to see that you are getting the letter into the slot. It's a little bit inconvenient, but at least it should deter theft. And no more getting gunk all over your hands when you went to mail a letter! I do believe the PMGeneral is trying to screw over the USPS, but in this case I don't think these changes have anything to do with elections or voting, etc. |

You continue to bash them as "weak" or "cowardly" or "do nothing" on thread after thread, yet won't say what you expect them to do that they are not. 50. We are always on the defensive, if we were a well run party...
They would be on the defensive at least half of the time. They creamed us in 2010, and used the census year to redistribute many states to make it very hard for us to regain the house. They get to name our policies instead of us, like Obamacare. They make us look like a bunch of uptight nerds, which isn’t a bad thing but in campaigns for a very powerful role, does matter to many. They have people like Frank Luntz, and past ones like Karl rove and Lee Atwater. I guess we had David Plouffe and David Axelrod, but where were they after 2012?
They keep on getting ahead of us, shows how we have not been playing the game as we should. |

But yes, just stating they won't remove them, they didn't say they'd pickup the mail, or how often, or will process it quickly. They are just playing games with the public, and there's somebody directing this, and I'd bet paying dearly to make it happen. |
