It says a lot about Biden that after she rightly confronted him about race in that first debate that he held no grudge, no animosity. In fact, he might say it gave him pause and a chance to consider how his friendship with segregationist Senators might have been hurtful to people of color and that, even at this age, he can change, he can do better. As progressives, isnt that at the core of what we stand for? Isnt that the change we are fighting for? Our belief that America can do better and that our fellow Americans will join us in this movement for a more just and equitable society? Kamala Harris is one more step in that direction.
Ive met her a few times and I can tell you (and you know I wont BS you on this because I pretty much despise all politicians), shes sincere, she has heart, shes on our side. No, shes not you or me. But were not on the ballot. WE are the movement, which in the long run is what is going to get us what we need. We keep building that movement, we will succeed. And one of our missions in 2020 is to crush Trump, reclaim the Senate and bring down the system of greed, racism, misogyny and white male privilege that gave us Trump because that, my friends, is what has thrown us into the mad, dark hole were in. Our movement is on fire now, tens and tens of millions of us in the streets, at the polling sites, at home, organizing online, young people at the forefront, Black America once again saving us and forcing us to be what we say we are but never were. This is our moment.
And it is now the daughter of two immigrants, born in the last ten weeks of the Baby Boom (but seemingly with the soul of a millennial), possessing skill and smarts, a woman of color who could and did obliterate Bill Barr at a Senate hearing she and we have a chance in 83 days to do something the entire world is desperately waiting for us to do. Good on you Joe Biden, congrats Kamala, onward!

Look at how he claimed she specifically supports Sanders's dishonestly undoable, and essentially nonexistent healthcare "plan." She backed off that for all the huge reasons that made it downright immoral to even pretend to support (a big problem for me with her then). And is going to be VP to Biden, who's far too intelligent and progressive, the real thing -- committed to providing healthcare -- to even consider it.
But here's Maher setting her and the Biden up for attacks of betrayal because she'll be working to provide universal coverage through Obamacare. .
And under President Biden and VP Harris, those whose not-secret-enough main reason for trying to destroy Obamacare was antipathy to the mainstream Democratic/Obama administration that created will just have to talk themselves into forgetting that.

(11,682 posts)When she is likely pretty much a solid moderate Democrat and we love her. I'd like to emulate some Canadian Social norms (for instance their gun culture and national medicine) otherwise it is just an interesting take by one writer from our nearest, closest neighbor.

(41,966 posts)It notes she is the daughter of scholars as thorough that would make her an elite. Says very little about her actual policies
It implies she would run on conservative economic policies, without and reference to anything, other than she went to Westmount High school.
I dont see one single thing in the article supporting the premise of the title.

(1,206 posts)Democrats and Progressives supposedly hold near and dear to our hearts - healthcare, gun control, wealth inequality etc., etc., etc.
And as you point out he also correctly predicted Trump would win the election. 'cause he um, knows what he's talking about.
My wife worked on 'Michael Moore in Trumpland' and he was FULLY committed to getting her elected.

(3,635 posts)Moore predicted Trump would win in 2016 but did fully support Hillary in the GE and was visibly upset on that terrible election night like the rest of us.
IIRC, Moore's only time voting 3rd party was in 2000, and has voted for the Dem in the GE every time since.

(18,973 posts)Michael Moore is hated here and rightly so, but he does have his finger on the pulse of a certain segment of voters that we need this Fall. Kamala can appeal to blue color voters.
Glad Moore is on board, he'll help with Bernie supporters and with a small segment of Trump voters looking for something better.

(25,380 posts)and usual "cop" stuff and that Harris wasn't sufficiently faithful to one version of universal health care (the three magic words of Medicare for All).
I really wish people like Michael Moore and Cenk Uygur and other public figures think hard about what they say about the Democratic Party in future. They spend years telling their audiences that it's the same as Republicans, their candidates bad, not progressive, corrupt, bribed by corporations and wealthy donors and Wall Street. Then as the election nears they urge them to vote for Democrats. Naturally this is confusing. It only adds to cynicism and conspiracies that their "speak truth to power" heroes have been forced by dark powers to now support Democrats. MM told them that Democratic primaries are rigged, Democrats take bribes, the Flint water crisis was President Obama's fault, that Democrats are the true roadblock to progress more than Trump.
Maybe MM and Cenk and others think of it as just show business or politics and don't believe all the lies they tell about Democrats. But the audience trusts them. I don't know how they sleep at night.
