I am floored by this sea change.
Folks, I live in rural Texas. Not THE most rabid area, but still. My neighbor is a former GOP county commissioner. He was a recent GOP county chair, for years. The local GOP met at his house.
Today his garden-club prizewinning yard is sporting two signs: Biden 2020. Vote Blue No Matter Who. Damn.

... and I know there were several this time of year back in 2016.
I'm not seeing any signs for Biden either, but it's encouraging that there's no Trump signs this time... at least along the same roads where I saw them four years ago. |

29. I hear u. Couple months ago hubby& i drove to Luckenbach to see the beautiful wildflowers
Its also a rural area.Saw big trump signs along the way put up by farmers on their fences. In my area just north of austin i've yet to see a trump sign though.
Well just yesterday i went to pick up 2 Biden signs & placed them prominently in my yard, next to a couple other local Dem candidates signs. My road gets lots of traffic since it leads out to main street so the signs get lots of visibility so im sure im pissing off any trump supporters driving by. Ive seen Biden bumper stickers on quite a few vehicles &also have one on my car. |

So they can redraw districts and win a seat on the railroad commission, which oversees the oil and gas industry.

46. Agree. She & her Dem opponent came on our county's Dem virtual happy hour & spoke.
He was no match for her. She's highly knowledgeable of the industry, impressively articulate & sharp sharp.
One note: If Dems take back TX House they need to rename the RR Commission to "Energy Commission" or something indicative of its purpose. Conservatives have been fighting this big time to keep the commission under radar. Currently all 5 members are conservatives who likely are getting kickbacks from the oil & gas companies for consistently making policy in their favor. Alot of rot in this part of the state government. |

RE Trump: some are born leaders and sometimes destiny finds them. But not without our vote. I’m very glad to hear of sea changes like this—but we must not forget that trump is a pro Grifter, suffering from dementia and with lots of ‘friends’ who will do their part to make sure the right amount of votes won’t be counted. Here comes the bottom ...Q

This was the area where Germans settled along with many Mexican folks. We are a weird mix here, with some of the worst arch-conservatives, and a bunch of fiery progressives. The majority are hard-headed conservatives, unfortunately.

56. I got that when you told another poster which county you were in.
You are so right about the peculiarities of rural Texans, though. I met an elderly farmer/rancher near Schulenburg years ago. Didn't speak English. His daughter had to interpret for me. He'd been born in Texas, lived there all his life and never bothered to learn English. His people had come there in 1850's. Talk about a day of awakening.
But I also had a lovely evening in a little village in western New York state in the finger lake region where Polish was everybody's first language, with English as second. Some in the melting pot don't melt so easily. |
