As a Kentuckian, I knew Amy McGrath didn't have a prayer of beating Mitch. I voted for Booker in the primary cause at least he would go down swinging. McGrath is running a terrible campaign here. I'm not bashing her as I think she is a fine person, but her campaign manager needs to kick rocks. And her ads are really bad...like really bad. I'm talking cringeworthy. Mitch is killing her and she is not hitting him back hard at all.

(509 posts)She spends too much time talking about being a fighter pilot and not enough time hammering Mitch for all the corruption and crooked shit he's done. She hasn't even mentioned healthcare in her ads so far. Nothing.

(7,846 posts)Werent her ads running when it was 46% to 47%
Wanderlust988
(509 posts)And she's not responding in kind. I still don't understand why she hired the same campaign manager that ran her losing congressional campaign in 2018 to run her Senate campaign this year. I really don't understand.

(58,785 posts)How do people think a repellent weasel like him, who serves his donors and betrays his state between elections, even stating publicly that he doesn't talk to ordinary Kentuckians because it's a waste of his time, has managed to get reelected for 30 years?
His donors flood his opposition with negative, dirty, lying attacks and keep the money flowing until it finally works and people turn off, not sure what to think. That's how. Nowadays, of course, McConnell and company are experts in all techniques of election theft, interference, subversion, so I believe it would be foolish not to assume this one is being augmented however needed.
Because the national and planetary battle for power is enormous.
In OUR corner, Amy McGrath, the Democratic Party, and honest press.
in Moscow Mitch's the Republican Party, the RW kleptocracy he helped create and their media support, the religious right, white nationalists, and Russia, China and Iran representing themselves and others. McConnell is a far better and more committed friend to China and Russia than he is to Trump.
And then there are KY's voters.

Unless the filibuster is gone, he can essentially stop any legislation by Biden and the House.

a barrel, in bad trouble even with control of the senate and that tool in the WH. Reality is his competence is limited to using power that he has for his own purposes, not the nation's good. When we have enough power, we always show him and them up for the incompetents those who can only lie, steal and destroy well are. Haven't you noticed that? And at other times he shows himself up.
Let's face it, how's the Republican-loosed pandemic going for them? CDC estimates an additional 40,000 deaths over the next election month. And we do have a huge election coming up, so Republicans are forced to deal, badly NEED to deal.
Speaking of the Republicans' pandemic, which apparently once sounded like a good idea to ol' Moscow Mitch, the second wave of the first wave of the virus is completely out of control, ravaging the nation and growing worse every week. And now that they're forcing children into the schools (yes, congress has a big part in that decision because they could have stopped it), teachers and some children are going to start getting seriously ill, and even dying. Get ready for tragedies and in some places parents pulling their children back out, even illegally.
Wildfire season's also heating up out west and hurricane season in the east. It's THEIR job to handle all these disasters well, but our well-run government functions of Democratic eras no longer exist; they broke them and replaced them with a third-world haplessness and chaos America could never have imagined.
And regardless of all that, this battle in this war is not over until it's over and it's time to move to the next one. If McConnell becomes minority leader, he'll be longing for the good old days.

(4,104 posts)Same shit he did to Obama. No to all Biden judges and the legislation on his desk will just continue to pile up.
Im nearing 70 and I have no hope that states like Kentucky will ever change in my lifetime.

(58,785 posts)And he knows it. As for what we'd do with control, let's face it, we unsolicited armchair experts know nothing. And pointless despair based on profound ignorance...lacks utility.

(14,565 posts)Simply too many self-identified conservatives in Kentucky. It has risen from 39% to 42% over the past decade. There is no such thing as an upset, not without bizarre circumstance like the Roy Moore situation in Alabama 2017
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)by far the most powerful Republican in the nation. Most analysts point to him as the biggest single factor in the decline of our nation and rise of our new kleptocracy and use of increasingly fascistic tactics to overthrow our democracy.
And you imagine McGrath can't compete with that because of weak commercials?
Reality is, for decades KY conservatives have demonstrated their willingness to let McConnell cheat, betray, kill a few here and there, but generally kick them all in the teeth in return for having it be their man kicking everyone in the teeth from DC.
Conservatives have gotten crazy destructive, all right and, wobbly though some may have become, so far for self abuse McConnell's have been second to none. Whatever their problems are, you can't claim he hasn't made them proud, especially now as COVID deaths over the next month alone are projected at another 40,000 (in fake, doctored counts, of course).
