We were a regular family': Ga. teen loses both parents to COVID-19 days apart

https://www.wmcactionnews5.com/2020/08/03/we-were-regular-family-ga-teen-loses-both-parents-covid-days-apart/

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. (WSB/CNN) - A 17-year-old from Georgia says he will use strength he gained from his parents and their love to get through his grief following their deaths, just four days apart, from COVID-19.

Justin Hunter, 17, says he and his parents, Angie and Eugene Hunter, took all the proper precautions, but about two weeks ago, the whole family tested positive for COVID-19.

The new "normal?"

1. Poor things were taking "precautions"..

it's a heartbreaking shame they got it!

I wonder how they got it?

2. I wonder the same, Cha!

Although, perhaps they weren't taking all precautions.

At the end of the article, the grieving teen talks briefly about dedicating his fall school sports season to his parents. 😳

So sad.

4. So unbearably sad for the boy. i always

wonder how anyone gets who is taking precautions.

Even Herman Cain who didn't believe in the Virus.. I wonder exactly who gave it to him?

9. You can get Covid-19 while wearing a mask. nt

Wearing a mask, social distancing (6 ft.), and washing your hands does not guarantee a person will not get Covid-19. Even if you only go to the grocery store. Even if everyone there is masked. Even if you are really 6 ft. apart. Even if you really wash your hands for 20 seconds. Even if you take precautions with your groceries.
True, your odds of getting the virus are reduced. But not to zero. So some people will get it while taking precautions.

11. Right.. and now experts are saying the

Safe Distancing should be 13 ft.. But, it's already taped off everywhere I go.. like the bank, grocery lines, ACE.. etc etc for 6 ft.

14. Its actually 27' per MIT research

On how coughs & sneezes disperse droplets. Why they have been saying 6' - who knows?

Perhaps 27' is too inconvenient?

16. There would only be room for 2 people in

the bank at once. That could be one reason some people are catching it even though they're following protocol except for the "27ft"safe distancing?

I take the bus and there's not even 6 ft distancing on there. All passengers are wearing masks, though.😷😷😷😷

if you have children, of any age.

So, open schools and sports seasons.

17. Precautions reduce the chance of getting it.

I hope you weren't under the impression that wearing a mask, distancing, washing hands, disinfecting surfaces, etc. are 100% effective at preventing infection? They aren't.

23. No not under that impression at all.. Thanks.

I was just curious if there's anyway it could be narrowed down where they could have gotten it?

My paternal grandfather passed on from the 1918 Pandemic and he got it from working in a train station in Eastern Colorado in 1919.

5. As schools are forced to open, we're going to be seeing a LOT more stories like this.

Honestly, I think what the media should do is focus almost entirely on what this disease is doing to people, families, and communities. Every news network should devote hours every day to obituaries of people who have died, interviews with bereaved family members, with traumatized medical staff, with people who are "recovered" but still grappling with the effects of major organ damage months later.

Fuck Trump. Make him, as a person, irrelevant. Make sure the whole nation REALLY REALLY sees what his criminal negligence has led to. Make sure EVERYONE sees that this disease is very very real.

13. And the media should tie it back to Trump & McConnell

Everyone needs to know WHY things have been so bad and who is to blame.

15. +1,000!

And focus on what "recovered" really means!

If media was doing its job, we would not need to read medical journals to find out what happens to people!

20. It comes closer and closer...my brother's fiancee has tested positive for Covid...;

we took a vacation together, we were all sitting home...don't know how she caught it. My brother has diabetes. They hung out with my nephew and his wife and baby last Saturday and during the preceding week. My sister hung out with my nephew (she is his mom) on Sunday...so now nine people in our family needs to be tested...including me. Called the doctor this morning. Stay safe.

21. This is heartbreaking

Justin Hunter is 17 years old, his parents are gone, and he has tested positive for the virus. He says he's asymptomatic, but how does he really know? Maybe he just hasn't started showing symptoms yet. He has gone to stay with relatives, so I have to wonder if they're taking precautions?

I'm not being judgmental - I'm saying that a lot of education and follow-up needs to happen with these families who lose their loved ones. If Justin is asymptomatic, then he could be spreading the virus wherever he goes. Is he going to school? Playing on a football team? Hanging out with friends?

In my opinion there's not enough outreach to the African American families to explain that vitamin D deficiency (or the possibility of it) is making the AA's more likely to die from Covid-19. Vitamin D deficiency is more common among darker skinned people, and that's not a racist statement. A British epidemiologist researcher Dr. John Cavanaugh is on Youtube with daily Covid-19 updates, and I have learned a lot from his blogs. People of color should be told this so they can act accordingly, possibly take vitamin D supplements, perhaps a change of diet, among other things. Vitamin D will not prevent someone from being exposed, but it should help mitigate some of the damaging effects of the virus on the lungs, the heart and other organs.

Best of luck to Justin Hunter!
