Not just because of the potential side effects. If he takes hydroxychloroquine and recovers from COVID-19, he's going to going around trumpeting that the treatment works, which will just muddy the waters still further.

I'm always having to tell patients demanding antibiotics for a viral infection that it won't help. They tell me they received antibiotics for a viral infection before, and they got better. I tell them you got better on your own, as you do with a viral infection, and you thought it was the antibiotics that did it.

The last thing we need at a time like this is more medical misinformation.
