Thank you, Barack Obama. For the first time in 5 years, we will be able to afford health insurance.

I have been avoiding checking into it. We have been without coverage as a family for five years and because of an MS scare that I had in the late 90's, I haven't been able to get coverage because of my supposed 'pre-existing condition' since we were forced to switch carriers in 2003.

Because of another thread on here, I went to the Health Reform Subsidy calculator and finally decided to figure it out.

With our subsidy we will be able to afford health insurance again. I am sitting here in tears. The past few years have been so scary. We have kids and they are covered under state policies, but we have made too much to get Medicaid, but not enough to afford insurance for me and my husband. I train horses and he works in construction. We have lived in fear that something would happen to us and we would not be able to keep our house. Two years ago I fell off a horse and dislocated my shoulder. I shoved it back in myself, researched physical therapy myself and never went to the doctor. (I actually did a pretty good job on me and have regained my full range of motion in that shoulder. It only hurts every once in awhile if I sleep on that side funny.)

Thank you, Barack Obama.

Thank you.

I know it is stupid, but I have just avoided even thinking about it til lately. I knew that they could not longer exclude me, but the last time we had checked it was going to cost $1600 a quarter and we just don't have it. We have managed to keep our house and are slowly getting back on our feet, but it has been a close call. I had to go back to training and running a farm full time as construction just DIED down here.

I can't get over how that felt...seeing those numbers. It was a kick in the stomach, but in a good way.

time in 10 years. It never goes down. It shoots up and up and up. It went DOWN this year.

Under the Affordable Care Act, the insurance companies now have to refund part of their premiums to customers if it exceeds a certain percentage of what is used for care, so it does them no good to gouge us.
