2. I believe the kid goes to a private school, and I am willing to bet

that Trump didn't mean private schools, just public school kids get forced to expose themselves.

Just like the TX christofascist theocrats let the religious school off the hook in TX.

12. FROTUS (First Rapist)45 has threatened to cut federal funding to schools

that don't rush to re-open.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/08/us/politics/trump-schools-reopening.html

"In taking on defiant educators, Mr. Trump invoked the one lever he had — federal funding — to impose his will on schools, which are traditionally run by localities and states.

“In Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and many other countries, SCHOOLS ARE OPEN WITH NO PROBLEMS,” Mr. Trump wrote on Twitter. “The Dems think it would be bad for them politically if U.S. schools open before the November Election, but is important for the children & families. May cut off funding if not open!”....(more)

6. Should be, bu the CDC has now caved

Coronavirus Live Updates https://nyti.ms/39oaGln

The top U.S. public health agency issued a full-throated call to reopen schools in a package of new “resources and tools” posted on its website Thursday night that opened with a statement that sounded more like a political speech than a scientific document, listing numerous benefits for children of being in school and downplaying the potential health risks.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published the new guidance two weeks after President Trump criticized its earlier recommendations on school reopenings as “very tough and expensive,” ramping up what had already been an anguished national debate over the question of how soon children should return to classrooms. As the president was criticizing the initial C.D.C. recommendations, a document from the agency surfaced that detailed the risks of reopening and the steps that districts were taking to minimize those risks.

“Reopening schools creates opportunity to invest in the education, well-being, and future of one of America’s greatest assets — our children — while taking every precaution to protect students, teachers, staff and all their families,” the new opening statement said.

9. I don't give a flying F what the now corrupt cdc says, nor does any other parent

They can’t force schools to open!!

Those that do, it’ll take about 2 wks for cases to really spike and they will close..they’ll have to.

10. Agree with you 100%

The now corrupt CDC has officially corrupted themselves and legitimized that way of thinking. Makes it that much more difficult for the adults in the room to be heard.

11. And to your point about closing again in 2 weeks

That's what I don't get about this being the political hill they are willing to have us all die for them on.

Go back to school late August /early September, spike by mid to late September, close and / or deaths increase early to mid-October, weeks before the election.

The science is clear. Can't figure out the calculus for ignoring it with the schools.

Either that, or he's just like his Dad and gets D's but tells everyone he's a Rhodes Scholar.

16. Well, maybe the Trump parents should take him out of his private school and...

...enroll him in the local public school that is open and not doing on line classes?

Note: I would not wish that on Barron...he is an innocent child with two mega asshole parents...but it's just a point to raise about people who cannot send their children to private schools. If in classroom learning is OK, then it is OK for EVERYONE.

20. If schools reopen in person, think Israel redux

From the Daily Beast 14 Jul:
https://www.thedailybeast.com/israeli-data-show-school-openings-were-a-disaster-that-wiped-out-lockdown-gains

(snip)
Then, Levine says, “contrary to our advice, the government decided to open the entire system all at once on May 17. What happened next was entirely predictable.”

On June 3, two weeks after schools opened, more than 244 students and staff were found to test positive for COVID-19.

According to the education ministry, 2,026 students, teachers, and staff have contracted COVID-19, and 28,147 are in quarantine due to possible contagion.

Just in the first two weeks of July, 393 kindergartens and schools open for summer programs have been shuttered due to cases of COVID-19.
