Bigger problem of calling in the guard, though, is that it would set off a civil war, which is what Trump wants. Then he would declare a national emergency, order elections cancelled, and call upon RW militias to back him.

Sure, it would be illegal to cancel elections, but it is also illegal to turn unidentified forces loose on civilian protesters. Legality means nothing to Trump. His response would be, "So what? You and whose army will stop me?"

but did not get details. What I heard is that someone (who?) admitted that these thugs are part of an unnamed federal force, acting on federal orders. That was a few hours ago. I have not heard anything more about it since then.
