Nothing really interesting in Rachel's interview with Mary Trump.

I mean she kept harping on the point Trump is racist. So what ? We know that and have known for decades, no scoop there. The story about cutting the medical support for a family member is also widely known.

4. Basically, it appears to be corroboration of well known traits of Trump.

Nice to see it surface as the election nears, to refresh the less informed would be voters.

5. I'm so sick of people dumping on every good thing that happens.

Mary's book has set records already. She brings a uniquely qualified and credible perspective at a strategic time.

But yeah, let's just crap on her. SMDH.

8. You might want to read carefully.

I'm not criticizing Mary Trump. She came across as extremely bright and credible. What I am disappointed about is the way Rachel conducted the interview. I was expecting more insight from it.

Most of what they discussed is widely known already. Lots of it also correlates with Tony Swartz book and interviews. Mary adds weight to it because she is a member of the family. I am not convinced it will make any difference amongst Trump supporters.

Here, I'll paste it... the entire thing...

I mean she kept harping on the point Trump is racist. So what ? We know that and have known for decades, no scoop there. The story about cutting the medical support for a family member is also widely known.

Then you say you're NOT criticizing?... Your post was a criticism, then a SO WHAT. THEN AN ATTACK ON RACHEL?

It is so sad that everyone is not as finely attuned and informed as you.

17. Rachel is not a good interviewer on topics like that

She has no ability whatsoever to stray from a narrow window. Standard Fare Maddow. Contrast to Chris Matthews who would have done a fascinating interview. He wouldn't have cared much about the book. He would have asked about day to day in that family and really drawn out the emotion and new material from Mary. She would be asked to think about aspects that never occurred to her previously, or not in decades.

7. I didn't know the medical support story, and I'm an avid news consumer

Of course, no one is surprised that he is openly racist, but the more times it is said in public the more it is engrained into the common thought. I was intrigued by the entire interview.

"One of the things we have to grapple with now is, Why are so many people still allowing this to continue?" One of Mary's more interesting observations, in my humble opinion.

I have her book on order, they're supposed to ship it to my house.

13. I thought the interview was interesting and insightful

Mary shared about her uncle’s inability to ever admit he’s wrong and that he’s completely incapable of addressing the Covid-19 crisis. Americans will continue to die because of his pathology. She also elaborated on the family history and how the cruelty and abuse created the lazy monster (my word) we have in the White House who, with the help of his Republican enablers, has already destroyed much of the country we have known and loved. If Trump is elected in November, it will be the end of the American experiment. I thought both Mary and Rachel were very professional in the interview.

I'm sure when I see it I will have nothing to complain about.

I really appreciate Mary L coming out of nowhere, seemingly to me, to write this book.

The book that trumps fought tooth and nail to have suppressed.. like his damn tax returns.

30. Knowing how extremely vindictive Donald is...

...it took a tremendous amount of courage for Mary to come forward. As mentioned in the interview, she waited to come forward until she had a better chance of being believed. Tony Schwartz mentioned on Lawrence’s subsequent program, no one believed him when he first came out about Donald’s true character, after the 2016 election. I can only imagine what our nasty potus has in store for Mary, and I hope she can stay safe. However, the truth eventually comes out. At some point, even the truth about Donald’s convoluted and fraudulent taxes will be revealed.

27. It was very interesting

Mary is giving us the tea from inside the family. She gave us the history behind the manifestations we are presented with today. As a clinician I find her input to be an essential piece of this puzzle. This perspective we have not gotten before from this tight-lipped and mostly corrupt family.
Now we know that racist terms were casually used within his family circle, including by 45 himself. If this information was not new, the White House wouldn't be inclined to respond to the revelation yesterday by saying the book is filled with lies.
However, the "family" didn't sue her for defamation, the lawsuit was brought because of an NDA.

28. My take on the interview was

That This woman has not been sitting in TV studios with dozens of lights camera and a gigantic national audience watching her ever. She was nervous, a little worried about her performance, and in awe of the situation As any normal non-sociopathic, non-narcissistic person might be.

What bothers me most about the evening is that Rachel’s three paragraph questions were overblown, redundant, simply rehashing the book with perhaps one exception, and extremely verbose. I got to thinking that perhaps she knew that this was a woman of few words and she needed to have a questioning that was so specific that she would have to answer those questions directly in just a few words instead of expounding and elucidating each answer. It was more of a courtroom questioning by friendly counsel that it was a TV interview. As the other poster pointed out, I would’ve preferred the equivalent of a Chris Matthews type interview which might have pulled out even more dramatic incidence rather than “state for the record did this or did this not happen?”. That being said, I have watched Rachel from the day Keith Olbermann got her her show and enjoy it very much since I have managed to compensate for the verbosity. I don’t want anyone to think that I am criticizing her in a bad way: she is more professorial than she is television host. That’s OK By me, academic exercise is good for the mind.

Of course there was nothing new or shocking in the interview, since if she had said that she personally witnessed Donald raping six-year-olds we would all be sitting around saying well that’s about right. There is nothing that can surprise us about this man and it was excellent to see our feelings validated by someone who Has known him her entire life. I give her credit for doing what she’s done, she’s clearly had a very difficult existence, I know she’s a single parent and one can only imagine what she endured and witnessed. I pray for her continued good health.
