Covid news:
From Bloomberg today:
"Gilead Sciences Inc. advanced after reporting its Remdesivir treatment cut Covid-19 mortality risk by 62%, helping to ease concern about spreading infections." No other details but looks encouraging. 62%, if verified, is major.

1. Be very wary of this
They are reporting on their own product. The way science works is to release your work and then let others peer review it.
There are numerous calls for Gilead to be investigated for releasing info in an effort to boost their stock price. Several Dem Congressmen have been quite skeptical of them. |

3. I know someone who works for that company.
He says about the same thing..all hype, not much depth to their drug. But their self report will make stock go up, which is the point. |

4. Yes,
I wish I had a link to the supposed report. Could be another pump & dump (trump & dump?) but hard to know at this point.

7. Careful...
I was hectored a bit when I observed that their last big announcement (April 29) was a day prior to their earnings release:

2. Even if true, it is IV only since attempts to create an oral form have failed to be absorbed...
Thus one has to be hospitalized to receive it.
So, that comment about "easing concern about spreading infections" refers to the fact we have out-of -control spread resulting in overwhelmed hospitals full of ICU patients thaat might benefit and not that its use would prevent further spread. (Editors are still required, but apparently less often used). |

5. How does reducing mortality ease spreading infection?
Those two are not related.

6. Yes, it probably should have read,
"...ease concerns over the spreading infection.".

8. Makes more sense to read, but still not medically supported.
If the medication work you have a better chance of not dying. Okay.
Has nothing to do with whether you get infected in the first place. It would only do that if it was a prophylactic medication. |
