Jimmy Carter telling the truth

Last edited Tue Jul 7, 2020, 04:03 PM - Edit history (1)

Edit:
It has been pointed out that this quote is properly attributed to John Fugelsang. He was channeling his inner Jimmy Carter when he penned the quote.

3. I love Jimmy Carter.

I think he's probably the most decent man ever to hold that office. Contrast him with that corrupt orange con man who holds that office now.

I love the man.

6. I always liked Jimmy Carter

Because he was a decent man. As others have said. hes at the complete opposite end of the spectrum compared to that incompetent national disgrace we have now.

7. I met President Carter about 20 years ago. The most striking thing about him was the intensity...

of his blue eyes. You felt like they were looking deep inside you. My favorite President. American fucked up not re-electing him.

10. Ran into him back in '87

I was in college, attending a conference about the Presidency in Atlanta. During one of the cocktail hours I was carrying two drinks (screwdrivers-what an odd thing to remember) and I turned around and was face to face with him. He put out his hand to shake. I looked down at my two drinks..... Passed the drink from my right hand over to his left and shook his hand. He then politely handed my drink back. He never stopped smiling and even chuckled.

28. Totally agree

I had the opportunity to talk to him for about 20 minutes about seven? years ago. Incredible presence. I was overwhelmed with him as a person like no other I have ever met.......He is a sincere and genuine a person, with thoughts of only doing the best for humanity...

12. Well that's a major difference

the quote may look good, but if the former potus didn't say it, then it loses a lot of the potency.

14. He certainly embodies the quote.

Doesn't change my opinion if it's attributed to John Fugelsang.

I will put it in the OP.

16. Met him briefly at a book signing. Even after sitting there for hours he was cordial.

Got my mom a signed copy of his book for her birthday. I have this weird memory of trying to figure out who was secret service and who wasn't while I was standing in line... I must have been bored.

29. LOL

I was talking to a Secret Service guy at a gathering for him.........he shared a lot, especially that the people who are assigned to him felt they had gone to heaven. He had all of the agents complete respect, and took incredible care of them each and every day.......
He let me play what normally clothed guests were Agents, but only for a few guesses......I guessed two who definitely were not agents, and it turned out they both were agents.........He said it was up to the obvious agents to take the fire, and up to the normally clothed agents to take the attacker(s) out...........

I have to say, if I were guarding "W" or any of his clan, ie: Cheney or Rumsfeld, or assigned to guard Trump, or any of his clan, I WOULD QUIT......

line moving unless the President decided to chitchat a little.

he's no longer marketable - he could not be hired anywhere given his racist comments and since he will have no money which woman could want him.

33. Jimmy came to our house for a dinner in 1976.

Rosalynn was with him. The Secret Service made the family leave the house prior to him coming so they could search it. We had a sniper on the roof.

There were a lot of people there, but Jimmy came over and talked to me and all my brothers and sisters. He was a very nice man.

36. How nice!

Tony Hall (D) was in my parents' house when he first ran for Congress. He was very nice and genuine too. Hall has more recently went on some hunger strikes to draw attention to world hunger:

https://www.daytondailynews.com/news/local-govt--politics/former-dayton-congressman-goes-hunger-strike/moQCT9pRKNob0IOKLpOcWN/amp.html

Ironically, my mother had a HUGE spread of food on the table when he came inside. Every day was basically Thanksgiving when I was a kid. (She was often hungry as a child, so food was always her main concern and joy throughout her adult life. My family was poor in most ways, but probably the most "food rich" in the neighborhood from what I observed when visiting neighbors.) My parents kept pleading with him to sit down and eat with us, but he politely insisted that he had to keep campaigning door-to-door if he wanted to win. (His eyes looked like they were going to pop out of his head while looking at all the food, and he kept holding back salivation with his lips.)

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2019/may/02/facebook-posts/quote-about-tax-dollars-poor-and-christianity-was-/

tried to post it on FB and got flagged

he's my favorite president but it evidently was not said by him

perhaps stop sharing it.
