I believe Donald Trump may have received a message from McConnell and Republican leaders?

Either he gets his polls up by Labor Day or they will consider nominating someone else at their Convention, or will ask for him to resign?

They are all, including Trump, totally obsessed with the recent polls. Unless something changes, it could spell disaster for other Republicans running for office.

In my opinion, this will be Trump's total focus for the next two months.

The Republicans are not going to walk off the cliff with him without a parachute.

If Trump cannot deliver the votes for them, then he is of little use anymore.

Just my opinion.

1. This Perspective Overlooks that Trumpers Won't Show Up for Republicans

this would be an even bigger disaster for Republicans if they felt Deep State Republicans shafted Trump--it would be a wipe out

13. That's true-- in fact, Trumpers might even rebel against standard Republicans.

It's not like most of them care about the shredded 'values' of the GOP. They just worship Trump, and they will always see the GOP as insufficiently willing to turn over every dollar and resource and become the Trump Party. (And really, the GOP has done its best to be all-in for trump, but it's not enough worship for him or his cultists.)

36. It's a no-win situation for them

Oh how sad for them 🙄🙄

If they stick with Trump, heíll take them down with him. If they abandon Trump, he will turn his crazy base loose on them, and theyíll all go down along with Trump. To the rabid base, a turncoat Republican is the only thing worse than a Democrat.

What a delicious dilemma to watch.

32. Maybe if he and his family got a 'Get out of jail free' card and a bigly national monument was...

Erected of him next to the White House. Donald Dumbass wants a statue with a Superman physique that stands taller than all other monuments and structures in the Capital. Preferably with his ass facing the White House.

Trump's threats would be fairly empty.

And even if not, Trump might be getting worried, and when he gets worried, he gets self-destructive.

5. There would be no point to that

The base choose Trump over McConnell every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Forcing Trump out unwillingly will be worse for Republicans.

9. They simply cannot

Trump is in full "messianic" control of at least half of the GOP base. The fury that particularly unhinged, gun-toting, Bible-thumping mob could and would do to any repukes that try to take him down cannot be overstated.

They are dealing with a cult here and they know it.

They could be wiped out permanently, if they stay with Trump. It looks like they are riding the horns of a dilemma.

Their only play left is to suppress voters. Look at Kentucky where there was one polling place for several hundred thousand folks.

I think that they may hope to distance themselves from him just enough to salvage their individual campaigns. Their challengers need to make sure that they are seen as the enablers that they have been since Trump's election.

Lindsey Graham is terrified most likely of what Trump might have on him. He will kiss add for as long as he needs to in order to keep his job.

34. They will already have nominated him by Labor Day...

...and can't force him to withdraw from the race once he's nominated, as we learned four years ago. All they're saying is that, if he doesn't get his polls up, "he's on his own." In other words, downballot Republicans will concentrate on getting themselves elected, and will publicly disassociate from him if that will help their effort.

Sound familiar? That's exactly what Republicans said on October 9, 2016, after the "pussy-grabbing" tape leaked and it looked like Trump was a sure loser. Of course, within a few weeks, they came crawling back, and once he was elected they denied ever having doubted him.

It's just the usual spineless Republicanism, just amped up a bit: wrap yourself around Trump when he's doing well in the polls, then pronounce yourself "concerned" and "troubled" when he's not. It's all the usual Elephant Manure.

35. The rats haven't left the ship yet

but they are packing their bags. They want the election to do their dirty work, getting rid of him. We will hear stuff like, "We always had concerns about him", glossing over the obvious fact that they let him off the hook when all knew he was guilty.

38. Such a plan assumes that Trump's base would accept anything but a dog-whistling racist

Trump's base is narrowing day by day as they double down again and again. Throw a Romney at them and they would not show up at the polls.
