And here's the turn, likely. All trends in FL have now worsened

Highest 2-day totals for hospitalizations and deaths. % Positive trend ticked slightly higher yet again, too.

13. republicans cannot govern at any level.

They have shown this repeatedly over many decades now, yet we keep electing them.

18. They can't govern

because they believe the concept of government itself is evil. The great, mostly unspoken, goal of the Republicans is to grab everything they can while tearing down the social programs that made this country prosperous in the first place. You can't be good at the thing you are trying so damn hard to destroy.

4. Even the most ignorant Trumpian

will find it hard to believe that increased testing is causing more hospitalizations and more deaths.

And some of them will realize that they have been lied to.

and would believe him right up until they themselves, or a spouse/child, are on their C-19 deathbed.

protagonist looks at a computer screen and says, "Dear God!"

I have friends who work for Broward Health Medical Center in Ft Lauderdale and they are beyond worried, it is just worsening every day.

7. I know a couple of local preppers - folks who've been eager to grab their guns and hide out in

their bunkers stocked with bottled water, MREs and ammunition, at the merest hint of some apocalyptic event, ever since the Y2K hysteria - who are now openly scoffing at the COVID-19 disaster here in Florida, ridiculing mask-wearing "libtards," and heading out to the nearest bar or beach this weekend.

Which is fucking hilarious in a sad way.

9. Great info

Deaths have been tough to track in Florida because of undercounting, misclassification, and a big lag in reporting. It can take up to two weeks to add a death and the state adds it by date of death.

This chart is tracking the day to day change in the total number which is helpful for an overall view.

10. Yeah...I created a spreadsheet a while back to track it

I started focusing on the 7-day trends due to the lags in reporting. Also note that FL is still undercounting deaths. Case Fatality Rate is like 2.2% vs Nationwide and worldwide averages of 4.8%

Altho the massive # of new cases have an impact on that, too.

If you want to see the source behind those graphs, check the 2nd tweet...has a link to the Google Docs spreadsheet.

11. Yes I looked at it

Looks like he is getting the death data by date of death as well. If you track day to day changes in total deaths it has been averaging over 90 a day this week. Again, not deaths that happened this week but those reported.

Now that hospitals are filling up we will see if that 2.2% holds up over the next three weeks. I hope so.

14. We're fighting a forest fire with a squirt gun here

From Jacksonville:
This morning, I had to run a few errands (groceries, meds, other necessities). At each and every store, there are signs posted telling customers that they are NOT allowed to enter without a mask due to Mare Lemon Curry's emergency order. I saw only one idiot who was not in strict compliance: he had the mask covering his mouth but not his nose. Otherwise, no complaints, no refusals based on perceived rights, no stomping away in anger, and -- fortunately -- no brandishing of firearms or other weapons.

But, this is too little, too late.

16. Just Found A Good Site

Johns Hopkins has this trend site.
The first graph is positivity by day, with a moving average line. The graph is interactive.
You can select a state or the whole country.
And, it loads fast!
Shows FL at over 20% yesterday. And moving average line has been quite steeply up since around June 10.

17. 2 week lag in results for mother in law

My mother in law (late 70s) is in North Florida. She's been sick for weeks and went to the doctor 2 weeks ago. She got COVID testing 2 weeks ago. The result came back THIS AM, and she has it. She is feeling somewhat better. Meanwhile, my father in law has gotten really sick the couple days and is now on the way to the hospital due to the severity of his symptoms. We are waiting to hear....
We had expected this. It is a cesspool there, and they really were not taking enough precautions. No one in their area was, why should they?
It is terrifying.
And a 2 week testing lag.
The entire extended family was undoubtably exposed in that time. And they will have exposed others.
