I'm running for New Mexico State Senate District #33. I ran for NM State Representative 4 years ago and feel more of a need to run, to pick up votes up and down ballot for Democrats in my state and at the national level. My DU family provided much support 4 years ago (much with the help of our beloved Pinboy3niner) and I know I can count on support now. We're in this together.
I have received the endorsements/support of Planned Parenthoood Votes New Mexico; AFSCME American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees; NEA National Education Association of New Mexico; AFT-NM American Federation of Teachers New Mexico; Sierra Club; and named a Gun Sense Candidate by Moms Demand Action.
I was concerned in my interviews as I shared that I was running a Combined Campaign to elect Democrats up and down ballot, that I would not provide only my campaign information but always include information for (especially, because she is in a very tight race) US Congresswoman Xochitl Torres Small, President Biden and all the local state senate, state representatives, county clerk, treasurer and commissioner. I worked hard to get a full ballot of Democrats, first time in over 25 years.

Please help me elect our progressive US Congresswoman...and myself. I'll work hard for us.

(4,214 posts)Im Denise Lang-Browne and I want to be your new voice for New Mexicos Senate District 33.
Im the daughter of an Air Force officer, was married to a Vietnam veteran and am most grateful to be a mother and grandmother.
I moved to Otero County over 40 years ago. I received my degree in accounting from NMSU. I worked for a CPA firm in Ruidoso and we audited multiple government entities; I was a staff accountant for the City of Alamogordo; Finance Officer for the Boys & Girls Club of Otero County; Administrative Coordinator for the Otero/Lincoln Behavioral Health Collaborative; and Business Manager of the Alamogordo Cancer Treatment Center.
Im asking for your vote because this District needs a new voice. We need a voice that will speak fairly for the people of Otero, Lincoln, and Chaves County. Having spoken with many of you, I can say that the people support well-paying job creation in innovative industries. We want to improve the quality of our public schools and we want to protect our public lands. We want our children to be able to find work that pays a living wage so they can remain in our state. We want our law enforcement to be Officers of the Peace, to protect the vulnerable.
Help me be your voice for Senate District 33 and vote Denise Lang-Browne, for New Mexico State Senate District 33.

(1,038 posts)As a fellow New Mexican (Bernalillo County) I hope you are successful in your race. We sure do need more Dems from that southern part of the state. I donated to your campaign and am very hopeful that both you and Congresswoman Xochitl Torres Small will win your respective races.

(9,090 posts)UNM broadcasts sports on 770 KKOB and even advertises for recruiting during the limbaugh show, ads touting their diversity!
that station is strongly connected to the GOP. it regularly gives their candidates and elected republicans and their staffs, as well as rw think tank media hacks, free time, while attacking progressives and their causes. if they were going to pay $1000/hr x 15 hrs/day that's worth about $75,000 FREE to them vs you and other dems.
i hope you or another dem candidates - or all of you - in NM get a community discussion going about the absurdity of UNM supporting and bringing in ad money and even advertising on KKOB while it denies global warming, excuses trump and racism, attacks immigrants, supports the wall, etc., and has been used to enable and cheer on COVID denial and action delay.
that limbaugh radio station, licensed to act in the public interest, followed limbaugh's lead and called covid a hoax for two months and more recently was screaming for the governor to reopen small business - and masks are for sissies. maybe they are covering their ass more now but theres no excuse for UNM to be helping republicans against you and other NM dems by continuing to broadcast sports on KKOB. at the same time, whatever happens, they will blame dem politicians for not doing it right!
and UNM is just one of 87 universities endorsing 260 limbaugh stations

(4,214 posts)Im in such a fundamentalist, right-wing County. Did you hear our County Commissioner say, The only good Democrat is a dead Democrat?
certainot
(9,090 posts)are dittoheads to help them factor in rw radio better.
re UNM it's possible that years of pressure around the uni of colorado community to get it to stop broadcasting games on the major limbaugh station in CO might have forced the station to preemptively demote limbaugh to a smaller station to avoid publicity that could draw in the CO pro teams.
good on you for running. it's looking up! counties like yours all over the country like that are going to go 10 pts left when limbaugh dies and they can't replace his policing abilities keeping all the other blowhards repeating the same messaging. the rw radio monopoly is going to fall apart.

(3,998 posts)I'm a Californian that loves Santa Fe and visit once or twice a year... before covid. I've considered retiring there, but worry about the lack of high quality medical care.

(53,410 posts)Im never sick so thats something I dont know anything about. I am quite happy here. Its a solid blue state and coming from the Bay Area I appreciate that its a small city with the feel of a laid back large town. I adore the cultural and racial mixture here. I worked in UC Berkeley which is a great mixture of international cultures and I grew up in Mexico and am bilingual so Santa Fe is a perfect match for me. I really like that in New Mexico there is an appreciation for history that goes even further back than the normal American history. Santa Fe has been a City and center of a trade route as long as 400 years ago. From before we became the United States.
I feel completely at home here.
