1. Yeah sure - MF45 's handpicked FBI investigator was told to say it wasn't intentional

8. This sounds legit

They said the noose has been hanging in that stall since last year but Bubba wasn't assigned the garage until a few days ago, so it wasn't likely targeted at him.

I, for one, am relieved that it probably wasn't a hate crime.

16. I understand the skepticism

But I'm also relieved when I find out that something is not as nefarious as it originally appeared.

I would bet that Bubba Wallace is relieved, also.

The good thing is that no one was wrongly accused and the NASCAR folks had a wonderful opportunity to show support and solidarity with one of their own. That matters.

33. WHY was there a noose at all?

Just because it was there before Wallace doesn’t explain it. And of all the ways a rope could be done to pull a door, a noose was the option? Smells like bullshit.

For now, I'm going with the FBI - but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

4. I would like to see a photo

of exactly how the rope was found. A coiled rope, such as one would find in a garage or basement, does not look at all like a noose.

19. CBS This Morning Showed Video

CBS This Morning showed video of what I thought was the garage in which the "rope" was hanging. From my point of view it looked like a noose. I looked for the video on YouTube, but I could not find the video at the CBS This Morning page.

22. Saw that, and it definitely looked like a noose. I caught a few minutes of RWNJ Ben Shapiro's show

this afternoon and he was referring to this as a "string." What BS. Racist BS.

27. I've seen a lot of pull ropes, but I've never seen one that looked that much like a noose.

And according to what I heard, no other stall in that section of the garage had a pull rope knotted like that.

30. It was a loop.

Used to open and close the garage door. If done correctly, they will look like a noose. I see it as a non-issue.

31. I agree it wasn't a hate crime. But I think it's easy to see why they had that first reaction.

Especially if none of the other pull ropes nearby had that loop or knot, as was the case according to what I read.

32. It could have been more. Maybe someone got away with a racist prank.

But I have seen many garage pull strings set up that way. Obviously I didn't see it close up, but from photos, it looked innocent enough to me.

There is another detail that was reported, Watson wasn't even supposed to use that particular bay, he was assigned another one, but a race delay caused a re-assignment. Maybe someone in the know took advantage of that to pull a racist stunt, I don't know. But a loop on a garage pull rope would not excite me.

In this video a Rick Strom, of TYT Sports, discusses what another driver said about Bubba Wallace. Included in this video is video of the "rope" hanging from a stall.

9. Possibly. I worked EMS a million years ago

Rural fire department--- had the power go out. Got a call that another unit had to respond to because we couldn't get the door open--- the rope was rotted out-

So, yeah. It's possible a rope was in there--but, knotted like a noose? See my above post.

17. My guess is the video showed crew member from one of the big teams.

They don't want to deal with having to take decisive action.

Ain't no way the entire NASCAR membership reacted the way they did for a rope that's been there for years.

18. The race team that had that same garage last fall had pictures of it being in the background

Last edited Tue Jun 23, 2020, 06:09 PM - Edit history (3)

It is the most respected team in NASCAR, so no one is questioning their integrity for a minute.

The reason no one reported it earlier was that a) no one even thought of it being a noose, and b) NASCAR never showed a picture of it after it was "found"

Those garages have been there awhile, so someone probably tied a loop on it years ago.

20. The garage complex was totally redone in 2019, so the fall race last year was the first

time the teams were occupying the new setup.

23. Good story on how NASCAR has basically thrown Bubba under the bus on this -

Last edited Wed Jun 24, 2020, 09:27 PM - Edit history (1)

NASCAR told Bubba Wallace that a noose had been found in his garage stall at Talladega. NASCAR made that discovery public Sunday night in a strong statement that threatened a lifelong ban for the perpetrator. NASCAR called in the FBI on Monday morning to investigate the case.

Yet in the hours after federal investigators ruled Tuesday that the noose had been in the garage stall for nine months, NASCAR’s only Black driver has been left alone to answer questions about an incident that doesn’t directly involve him. NASCAR has remained silent.

President Steve Phelps — the man who informed Wallace of the noose’s existence — issued an approximately five-minute statement on Tuesday afternoon after the FBI and U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama announced no hate crime charges would be filed because the noose had been in the garage since at least October and was not targeted at Wallace. But Phelps took no questions and NASCAR only promised that he’d speak again and answer inquiries about NASCAR’s ongoing investigation at an unspecified “later date.”

That later date is already too late.

29. I looked at the photo. It was on a rope that was used to open and close a garage door.

The best way to use such a rope is to tie a loop at the end that a person uses. An alternative is to make a couple big knots, but that takes longer than a loop and is less predicable.
