Conservatives Have Made American Politics Simply About The Tax Rate That The Rich Pay

As if EVERYTHING in our economy hinges on what rate the rich pay in taxes, which is an absurd notion.

Forget about modernizing our educational system, re-training the workforce, securing the social safety net, pulling in our global military industrial complex, protecting our environment, understanding our role in the global economy, repairing our infrastructure, developing new modes of transportation, improving our healthcare system, etc. etc. etc.

No, our political campaigns are about whether the top tax rate is 25%, 28%, or 34%. That's it and that's all.

You would think, that downgrading US credit rating for ANY increase however small is extreme, but it happened.
Business sitting on trillions, not hiring. Multi millionares have everything don't need anything, don't spend. If they do, will find a way
to make it a deduction.

That requires an entire narrative, and is even harder to speak to the religious voters who hold all government as oppressive. Add to that the libertarians who are little different in effect, not rhetoric, and you've got a lot of people to turn around. Add media propaganda and spin and a few times.

BTW, this is an excellent OP. Thanks for stating it so clearly. We're all working on what we feel the world should be. The premis is proof of the destructiveness of the Reagan generation.
