(16,369 posts)I think he sounds like a fucking moron, actually. Hes clearly unaware the partys base are women and POCs. The party also has loads of women and POCs in important positions. And oh yeah, there was Barack Obama. He sounds pretty uninformed on all that.
On what basis do you think he is probably correct?

(4,131 posts)While we have had, still have, and always will have the moral high ground in politics, we need to do more to represent the poor. We CANNOT allow corporate interests and the wealthy to have so much influence.
It is past time we cripple corporate speech and tax the hell out of the top 10% of earners in the country.
We need to systematically ensure that the highest paid CEO in a corporation makes no more than 10-15 times what the lowest paid worker makes. Make it stand for any and all companies that want to do business in the USA, foreign and domestic.

(15,325 posts)I think of Hillary Clinton's 2016 platform & how she spoke of this very importantant issue, promising to end the flow of money in politics that had become necessary to compete.
Why it wasn't important 'enough' to some at the time remains a unanswered question.
But here we are, 2020 and maybe we'll get it right this time.

(6,423 posts)I'd go a lot further, and no election ads on TV allowed, PBS I would use for 1 debate, 3 days before the election.
Election week, not day.
That's a start, end this gerrymandering BS is next!

(4,131 posts)One of many. We need to castrate the wealthy of their wealth and make sure the disparity between rich and poor is brought back to reasonable levels, so there are very few poor, a huge middle class, and very few rich. And the richest of the rich dont have that much more than the poorest of the poor.

Barkley identified as Republican during his playing career in the 1980s and '90s but turned Democrat by the 2000s.
What you say that you heard is completely inconsistent with his recorded statements which I was able to find in 60 seconds.
I don't understand why people don't google the subject first to check if it is consistent with facts known.
Charles Barkley is a Democrat who works for Democrats and helps them get elected
Charles Barkley was an early supporter of President Obama and supported him through out his Presidency.
Charles Barkley was a major supporter of Doug Jones
Charles Barkley was an early critic of Trump.
He has consistently said that both parties, including the Democrats need to do more for the African American community.

Barkley supported Pres Obama's campaigns.
Barkley was a major supporter of Doug Jones.
He has openly said that the Republicans do not support AA and when someone asked Juan Williams about that on Fox he agreed with Barkley.
Barkley left the Republican party and is now a Democrat.
Except for his comments that both parties Need to be fixed (which he has frequently said) I find the Ops rendition of Barkley at odds with his public statements on YouTube

(53,061 posts)He supported Barack Obama as a Presidential candidate before he announced having sought him out as a State Senator for an interview.
He was a vocal supporter of Obama and had a famous and very friendly interview with the President in the Oval Office.
More recently he has been the most vocal celebrity supporter of Doug Jones and made many appearances with him.
He is mow a Democrat supporting Democrats.
His pro Obama, pro Jones, anti Republican statements are easily found on YouTube.

(53,061 posts)aggressively supported President Obama and Doug Jones.
Even though he no longer lives in Alabama he went there during the last weeks of the campaign and campaigned aggressively for Jones and as his most effective surrogate may have helped generate extra AA turnout that made the difference.
When Obama was a State Senator Barkley sought him out and met with him privately and became a full throated supporter of Obama for President even before he declared. He consistently supported him all through out his Presidency and Obama returned the favor by granting him an extensive sit down interview that was widely watched.
But what does that matter compared to something he said when he was low on the learning curve 26 years ago?
Why be informed and accurate when we can gin up anger about something somebody thought they heard on a radio show that no one has a link to and is completely inconsistent with the last 16 years of an extensively documented public record that has literally hundreds of citations? If only there were some type of search engine on the internet that could give us a thorough, accurate and informed record in less than 60 seconds.

(578 posts)him. My biggest frustration with the Dems is due to also being owned by the rich they have now become the lesser of the 2 evils. Dems will give the people bread crumbs while the Republicans will just take away stuff from the people. That's how I contrast the two parties.
