(19,549 posts)Vice President Mike Pence said Tuesday planning for President Donald Trump's campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was a work in progress and that other venues were being looked at, including outside activities" because of concerns about the spread of the coronavirus.
Asked on "Fox and Friends" about holding the Saturday rally outdoors because of the coronavirus, Pence said, "you raise a good point."
"What I can tell you is it's all a work in progress," Pence continued. "We've had such an overwhelming response that we're also looking at another venue. We're also looking at outside activities and I know the campaign team will keep the public informed as that goes forward."
The Trump campaign declined to comment on Pence's remarks the record but a campaign spokesperson said the rally would still be held in the BOK Center as originally planned but other venues next to the arena were under consideration for overflow capacity.

(12,858 posts)Wouldn't there be more crowd control problems?
Do Trump people ever consult with mayor etc where they hold rallies? Or do they just do what they want and let someone deal with the consequences?
Guess the answer is obvious. Mr 'I have no responsibility' never heard of consequences !!

(43,085 posts)In Mobile, Alabama, he initially planned to hold a rally at an indoor venue, but as demand supposedly increased, he decided to move it to the city's football stadium, which seats about 40,000 people.
In the end, about 15,000 to 20,000 people showed up. Which most people would agree would be a respectable number....but Trump insisted the entire 40,000 seat stadium was filled to the brim. What happened was that they shoved everyone towards one end of the stadium. And the narrow shots showed a full house, but the wider shots revealed a half-empty stadium, which wasn't nearly as optically ideal.

(2,336 posts)Indoors will be suicide for many, and taking the virus home to friends and family. It's so irresponsible. I'm shocked Tulsa doesn't just say no.

(16,162 posts)I grew up in Tulsa in the 80s. The massacre was never taught in history classes and really wasnt part of the community conversation at all. Even though Ive always been a voracious consumer of history as a child I didnt even know about it until I was in my late teens. The city, and more specifically its white residents, tried to bury the tragedy over the years and were for a time very successful at it, to the point where successive generations of Tulsans never knew about it.

(12,858 posts)That church was moved up to the top of the hill from a little gothic style bldg at 11th and Guthrie. The whole area was wiped out for a freeway and federal and convention center
My dad grew up in a house on Guthrie halfway up the hill between 11th and 12th. The whole area was a major Greek enclave. A wholesale Greek grocery was across the alley from his house.
He went to the grade school that was on top of the hill from today's church bldg. It's where the fire station is now. We kids went there too. There were many Greek kids in our classes. They complained a lot because they had to go down the hill once a week after school to take Greek lessons at the church.

She's a noted science fiction author who lives near Tulsa. That book is part of a series about a woman fighter vs paranormal evil.
She's written another book about Tulsa, Sacred Ground. The protagonist is a woman learning to be a native peoples shaman from her grandfather.
A white developer wants to develop land across the Arkansas. When workmen unearth Native artifacts there, spirits start to haunt the property, the native workmen, and the developer
Quite a story, esp if you're acquainted with Tulsa!
