The stock market was never a good indicator of the actual health of the economy but it has become completely detached from reality recently.
I am using this rebound as an opportunity to divest because I don't see anyway how things can go well over the next year. When Wall Street looks around and realizes the damage was more than temporary, I can;t imagine it staying up.

(7,578 posts)Are the 1% propping it up for their own gain or is the FED buying the market now? Plunge Protection Team? I can't understand it but it sure doesn't resemble a "free market" system.

(58,598 posts)More than ever, it's just a casino where the shares have little to do with actual value of the companies they represent. There's a lot of froth.
And yes, the Fed has been funneling billions into equities to bolster the market, kind of behind the scenes, but some are reporting it. That adds to the froth, of course, because it's not attached to any real value.

(15,295 posts)Like 42 million newly unemployed, 110K dead from a raging pandemic, civil unrest, protests, military troops attacking civilians and the Dow up 500 points.
I really wouldn't give a shit about the Dow, except for some strange reason, the media has become obsessed with using it as a barometer of economic health.
Yes, the country is falling to pieces and we have fascism knocking on the door, 110K of your neighbors are dead with no end in sight, fires are burning in our cities... but... have you seen the Dow?
