I really believe it is time for President Trump to do an Oval Office address, Jenkins said on Fox and Friends Sunday.
Remember George H.W. Bushs address after the [Los Angeles] riots was one, by many political analysts reckoning, one of the most effective of his presidency, Jenkins said.
Bush addressed the nation on May 1, 1992, just days after Los Angeles Police officers were acquitted in the beating of Rodney King, a decision that sparked riots in that city. California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has declared a state of emergency and deployed the National Guard to help enforce a Los Angeles curfew as violent demonstrations continued Saturday night.
Jenkins, like Trump, slammed the response of local officials in cities like Minneapolis who have failed to gain control of protests that continued to gain steam overnight Sunday in places like New York and California.
He called on Trump to be the uniter in chief."

(12,350 posts)First Trump would robotically read off a bunch of presidential-sounding phrases on the teleprompter, seeming like a hostage forced to parrot his captors' propaganda. The next day he would resume tweeting about thugs, looting and shooting, and threatening that he alone can take control by sending in the military.
For someone sold to the American public as a "disruptor" and "unpredictable to keep his opponents off-base," Trump is ENTIRELY predictable. Boring. Lame. Awful.

IAE, Trump can't do it. He can't fake being sincere, he can't fake being empathetic. He certainly can't express those emotions for real.
Go ahead, Trump, sit down at the resolute desk and blather a few high sounding phrases. It won't work. His followers will blow it off and say, "He's just saying that to sound good, he doesn't really mean it and that's why we love him." His opponents, of whom I am proud to be a member, will ignore it also, because we know that he will be lying when he does it.
Frankly, I don't care. I won't listen to the Orange Asshole anyway. Fuck him, and fuck his sycophants, too.
