Michael Beschloss has been posting a series of tweets on the runup to D-Day, this time in 1944.

I hope you've been following his series of remarkable photographs. Here are a few:

1. There are several online radio archives of D-Day news broadcasts

It's very interesting to listen to them as the invasion reports began to come in. Curiously enough the initial reports were from monitored German broadcasts; from listening to the reports it seems apparent that the Germans knew the invasion of mainland Europe was underway quite early on D-Day.

In years past on 6 June I'd play those recordings in the background as I went about my day. It really made me feel connected to those events over the intervening decades.

2. Michael Beschloss is a national treasure.

He is a superb historian; I always enjoy hearing him talk about how our history and past history relate to each other.

3. Agreed

When I hear his voice on TV, I drop everything to go watch. I respect, and trust him not to color facts.
