(51,582 posts)She is already the most hated person today (besides Dear Leader that is). That BS apology will make things worse...another fucking moron.

(9,998 posts)The only thing missing was....."IF I've offended anybody, I'm sorry."

(33,643 posts)At least it's not the 'I'm sorry if people were offended' kind.

(7,490 posts)She has surpassed the neo-Nazis, spineless repub officials and serial killers in deserving our enmity.

(34,133 posts)From the article linked in the OP"
"I humbly and fully apologize to everyone whos seen that video, everyone thats been offended"
She's just trying to cover her ass at this point - and to save her job now that she has been put on leave.
mr_lebowski
(33,643 posts)And apologized to everyone who's seen the video. The people who are offended are a subset based on the verbiage.
It's not "I'm sorry if I offended anyone" and that's it.
I don't mind if someone apologizes for offending people as long as it's accompanied by a humble apology and admission of wrongdoing. She also seemed to understand why it was wrong insofar as she seems to be aware of her white privilege.
It's not perfect but it's not terrible is all I'm saying. I've seen more feeble (and/or even more offensive) public attempts at contrition than this one.

(34,133 posts)And then following through on that threat. She KNEW that Chris Cooper never threatened her or her dog, but she used her threat to claim that to authorities in an attempt to intimidate him. To me, that shows that she had a full understanding of the possible outcome of that reporting, yet she went ahead and did it, police did show up after she had left the scene. Fortunately for Mr. Cooper, they realized that he was not a threat to any park goer or themselves.
As others have indicated, her actions could have had tragic consequences, but she only acknowledges her "white privilege" ignoring the fact that her own threats indicated that she did understand that privilege and how dire a claim to police of an aggressive black man could end up for that man.
In her apology she does not name Chris Cooper, she refers to him as "that man" even though by the time she released her apology his name was well known and could not have been missed by her.
Her apology is not enough to close this incident. There need to be more consequences to her - even more than losing the ownership of the dog she abused during the incident. I'm waiting for charges of a false police report, as hers definitely was.

(33,643 posts)I've just seen a lot less sincere apologies in my day.
Maybe the bar has just been set so low by most assholes like her, I expect the worst.
This isn't the worst by any stretch.
It also ain't great by any stretch.
Demovictory9
(32,443 posts)the emphasize on "AFRICAN AMERICAN"... so her apology has a lie imbedded in it... as if she's just now aware..
she was aware...that is why she called the cops... she was hoping the birder's skin color would get him beaten, arrested, whatever.

(15,933 posts)"I sincerely and humbly apologize to everyone, especially to that man, his family," she said in a phone call. "It was unacceptable and I humbly and fully apologize to everyone whos seen that video, everyone thats been offended everyone who thinks of me in a lower light and I understand why they do."
"When I think about the police, Im such a blessed person. Ive come to realize especially today that I think of [the police] as a protection agency, and unfortunately, this has caused me to realize that there are so many people in this country that dont have that luxury," she continued.
Everyone should know by now THAT man is Christian Cooper. She could have at least addressed him as Mr. Cooper since they both have the same freaking last name.

(14,526 posts)Not the gentleman who or as you said, Mr. Cooper.
All because she didn't want to keep her dog on a leash. By her behavior and how the dog was acting, she had no control over it, he was right to ask her to do so.

(5,801 posts)She had to voluntarily surrender the dog to animal rescue while they look into her treatment of it.
But at least shes blessed.

(13,867 posts)In the 1950s, she would have gotten away with this.
In rural Alabama, she would probably have gotten away with this.
She is mad because her word was not automatically taken over the evidence from that man.
