Mr. President: Oregon has been voting by mail for 22 years. We just had a great election yesterday. It was safe, secure, accessible. And we protected public health. What more do you need to know to be convinced, Donald J. Trump?

Michigan sends absentee ballot applications to 7.7 million people ahead of Primaries and the General Election. This was done illegally and without authorization by a rogue Secretary of State. I will ask to hold up funding to Michigan if they want to go down this Voter Fraud path!

(15,897 posts)And we even elect an occasional Republican! In 2016 Oregon chose a R Secretary of State (who sadly died of the same brain cancer that John McCain had). VBM is very safe and secure and - here's the big problem for Ass Face - we have very good turn out for our elections.

(13,776 posts)I could have dropped it in the mailbox, postage paid, if I'd gotten the ballot filled in on time. But instead I had to drive to the drop-off place, wait in line for five minutes--protected from the rain, in a comfortable seated position in a warm car, and listening to the radio--and hand over six family members' ballots.
What kind of democracy is this? I should have had to wait three hours in line like a normal voter.

(11,143 posts)constantly beats up liberals and Democrats (Tulsi supporter) tell me that he did not like mail in vote because the religious head of the household has everyone filling the ballot out his way and they do not have the opportunity to privacy of vote. He always finds a way to criticize and attack. So, he would declare you filled all 6 ballots out yourself. Just saying, .
I had to register to vote and all buildings shut down. I called election people and a woman sat on the phone with me telling me about the pamphlet I got in the mail, where registration page was, and how to fill out and get in. And sure enough, a week later, I got my voter pamphlet. All so easy. Everyone so helpful. I love this state, working for the people.

(10,100 posts)and vote by mail has far fewer drawbacks than other systems. There are huge fines for influencing someone's vote - very strictly enforced if discovered.

(7,220 posts)AND we can research initiatives and candidates from the safety and comfort of our homes.
AND there are measures in place to protect against fraud, including handwriting experts to verify signatures match against voter registration forms.
AND postage is free.
AND no one at the polls to intimidate or harass us.
AND registration is automatic when you get your ID or driver's license.
AND we don't have to take time off work on a Tuesday FFS.
Honestly, why isn't everyone doing this?

(11,143 posts)against. I posted above, I am going to copy and paste. I told him argument doesnt hold water with all the oppression/suppression being done by Republicans, but what do you argue, since you are clever. In case he comes back with a comment.

OK seriously, we can't protect people from their own families in every situation. If this is happening, such a person must either get out or deal with it. Besides, this is not the majority, and families tend to vote the same way in any case, otherwise they wouldn't be together in the first place. Even if this is happening (and I'm sure it is in places), it's happening at the voting booths too. Regardless, it's not an excuse to force literally the rest of the country to suffer under archaic and dangerous circumstances.
Final thought: A person who was forced to vote against their wishes could call the election office privately, have their vote pulled, explain the situation (that they were coerced), and request the ability to vote in person or get another ballot at a different address. And then maybe call a domestic abuse support hotline.

(11,143 posts)doesn't allow voting anyway by family members, and easy enough to see, as they lump families at address together and mark if they came in to vote. Someone wnating that control is not going to give the freedom voting in booth.
