Kate Brown signed an executive order Friday extending Oregons state of emergency to July 6 in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
The move comes roughly two months after the original declaration was signed March 8. It was set to expire May 7.
The new executive order gives the governor the legal authority to maintain the orders shes issued thus far including the stay-home order, a moratorium on residential and commercial evictions and other financial stimulus measures and issue new ones as she sees fit, said Charles Boyle, a spokesman for the governors office.

(12,272 posts)I like her on fb and she gets a lot of super angry posts. People in my conservative town Medford going nuts most not wearing masks. Not sure how this will go.

(11,143 posts)Sports events, concerts, Olympic trials shut down immediately stopping a lot of problems. Those low numbers makes it look like not a big deal, which is the ironic about all this.
I think the reason she is doing what she is doing is so people can stay at home and still get unemployment and open up in stages.
She has also opened up doctor and dentist work too.
Baby steps.
Brown is being smart. She takes care of the people. Allowing a lot of people to make the choice to stay at homes is very solid.

(89 posts)I've been iffy about Kate before, but she has really stepped up and shown smart, calm, science-based, leadership.
Also, my mayor, Ted Wheeler (Portland) has definitely earned my vote.
Blue states just...work better
And I really like the three state coalition. Cascadia, anyone?

(82,849 posts)But Gov. Brown has caught up with Washington and California. She's laying out a methodical program for the various regions of the state. Rural, sparsely-populated areas without any reports of infections are having restrictions relaxed. More populous areas west of the Cascades are going to open up more slowly. The coast will probably continue to be quarantined, at least to visitors from east of the Coast Range. There are limited hospital and medical facilities on the coast, and containment is essential there.
What's really important now is leadership and transparency from the state government, communicating a consistent message, and adjusting to developments as they arise.
