Needed: another word for "news" that is not true
I was listening to NPR this morning and they used several phrases that the buffoon often uses. The one that jars me, that he initiated and promotes all the time, is "fake news." He owns this. We must find a new word/phrase for disinformation that is presented as news. We need a word/phrase that the general public and news and can use without reinforcing his ranting.

9. In normal times
I would agree. But considering the vulgarity squatting in the White House, I believe using bullshit is quite appropriate.

15. There is a book called "On Bullshit" which perfectly describes
the sort of misinformation put forth by Trump, et al. In general, bullshit is something that is said when the speaker doesn't know what he's talking about or care about the truth of his statements. "Bullshit is unavoidable whenever circumstances require someone to talk without knowing what he is talking about. Thus the production of bullshit is stimulated whenever a person's obligations or opportunities to speak about some topic exceed his knowledge of the facts that are relevant to that topic." Here's the essay that the author, Harry G. Frankfort, later turned onto a book. http://www2.csudh.edu/ccauthen/576f12/frankfurt__harry_-_on_bullshit.pdf He was prescient, I think.

19. How about "load of horse dump"?
Heard that in a speech from the '30s by Smedley Butler, and thought it was a "cleaner" version that plopped down like its namesake.
Of course, a currant variant might be "load of horseTrump" |

5. I've been hoping the crackpot news would catch on. I'll usually post FOX "News" and the rest of the
crackpot news sources" when getting in a shot at what the Trump worshippers are taught to make believe. I always use "make believe" or "pretend" in place of believe. It's a better description of their mentality.

21. Thank you for the distinction between "believing" and "pretending."
It irks me to no end that the media constantly claim that Trump and Russiapublicans "believe" something that is clearly not believable by any sentient being. What they are doing is "pretending."

Which covers both things that are blatantly false, as well as a mixture of truth and falsehoods that overall have the purpose of deceiving the audience.

but I don't think doll-hands created the term. He appropriated it. From us. Who used it to describe republican lies and deliberately false information they liked to spread around.
Because he loves very few things more than dating his daughter and accusing the left of doing the things he is actually doing. |
