My grocery store now opens at 7AM

From January to three weeks ago, the store was almost empty, leaving management no choice but to cut hours. I lost half my pay.

Now, I'm getting extra hours. I'm exhausted but grateful.

As NJ has told residents bars and restaurants have to close by 8:00 p.m., they're stocking up on their chips, chicken, and liquor. My belit is laden with purchases, resulting in easily 10 bags per customer. Sometimes they need two carts to take it away.

Our store has a computerized system with check-out. Each item is tabulated into a program that automatically puts in an order for restocking if a certain number is reached. Let's say we sold 500 packages of chicken breasts. Automatically a computerized order goes out to load a truck and bring us 500 more packages of chicken breasts and is on the road within one hour. We haven't had empty shelves yet.

I just read that Amazon is hiring 100,000 people to keep up with demand. I imagine other delivery companies will be doing the same. That may offset some of the job losses.

Can’t say the Kroger stores in my town haven’t had empty shelves because they sure have!! After a clicklist order that yielded only 2 sacks of potatoes and a couple of boxes of Lipton extra noodle soup (everything else was out of stock) to a couple of in person shopping trips, I have most everything I think we will need for a couple of weeks. Everyone at the store that I speak with say they are working their fannies off. I make sure to thank them for the great job they’re doing. I’m sure your patrons appreciate you, too!!! Stay well!!
