If it were a setup, he would have said so.

Seems out of character. Meth and a male prostitute? That should pretty much end his political career.

27. Which makes me highly suspicious of the whole thing.
A few markers that indicate a set up make me think he was taken advantage of while drinking, maybe some enhancement in his drink to help place him where he could be "found" in a precarious situation that he can't explain.
Smell to high heaven and appears all too convenient. I am not buying the whole gay guy and meth was "found" in the room too indicates that he's guilty of anything more than drinking. I think he was set up. Maybe he needs to go to rehab for alcohol issues but I bet that's the extent of it. Seems so many are ready to jump on the "off with his head" bandwagon. ![]() |

I googled him when I saw this OP. Surprised it didn’t make more news than it did.
Not surprised that he’s now going into “rehab.” |

19. I've been skeptical of Gillum. I never understood the excitement.
Lots of issues with corruption as mayor (or at least carelessness with ethics laws), and I was never impressed with his performance in his gubernatorial campaign. And now it's clear that he has lots of personal baggage to work through. Wish DeSantis weren't governor, but it's possible we dodged a bullet by not having Gillum either.
I wish him well in his recovery and hope this is the start of a new life for him. |

26. I think his being found in that room was a set up.
I also think his electing rehab is the best way to salvage his career. Everybody makes mistakes. He wasn't on meth, that shit sounds like "throw down" material and the gay guy was icing on the character assassination cake.
I'm not writing him off. Somebody wants him out of the game and this would have been a good way to do it in the minds of many. So he slipped into the bottle for a spell, at least he has the self respect to do the right thing now. I don't think he uses meth and for anyone to quickly write him off without a full story is pretty shallow. |

28. "Now, I'm not calling Mr. Desantis a racist. I'm simply saying the racists believe he's a racist."
Sometimes politicians are like bands and are one-hit wonders. I'll always be grateful for that debate gem: "Well, let me first say my grandmother used to say, “A hit dog will holler.” And it hollered through this room. Mr. DeSantis has spoken. First of all, he’s got neo-Nazis helping him out in the state. He has spoken at racist conferences. He’s accepted a contribution and would not return it from someone who referred to the former president of the United States as a Muslim n-i-g-g-e-r. When asked to return that money, he said no. He’s using that money to now fund negative ads." "Now, I’m not calling Mr. Desantis a racist. I’m simply saying the racists believe he’s a racist." The best line since, "You're no Jack Kennedy." |
