Sheetz- up to 2 weeks *extra* paid time off if exposed to COVID-19

Most do suck (oh you can take unpaid leave!) but not Sheetz. Why can't all big companies do this? The are not at all perfect but check this out:

A letter to our customers:

For nearly 70 years, our family has committed to providing a Total Customer Focus (TCF) in everything we do. During this challenging time, that commitment will not change. While the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and rapidly changing environment surrounding it have produced a lot of fear and anxiety, I want to assure you that Sheetz is prioritizing the health and well-being of our team members, customers and communities above all else.

We’ve taken several steps over the last week to remain vigilant, including establishing an advisory board of senior leaders and experts in the field of sanitation and food safety. This group is regularly communicating with our stores and evaluating the impact of COVID-19 in every community where we operate. They are also working closely with local health and government officials as well as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). In addition, Sheetz has established a number of preventive measures, in accordance with CDC recommendations, for both our employees and customers.

In addition to continuing with our routine cleaning procedures, we have added hours to our daily schedule dedicated to cleaning and sanitizing our stores. This effort is focused on high touch surface areas such as gas pumps, touch-screen order points, counter tops, door handles, cash registers, credit machines and ATMs.

As you well know, our team members are the heart and soul of this company. Their safety and well-being is of top priority to us, and of particular concern. To help prevent spread of the virus, we have reinforced proper hand washing and hygiene and are actively requesting employees stay home if they are sick. Team members are evaluated by management before the start of their shift. All of our employees receive paid time off, but we are providing up to an additional 2 weeks paid time to any employee who contracts the virus or is subject to quarantine due to exposure. For employees with pre-existing health conditions or compromised immune systems who are particularly vulnerable to the virus, they are eligible for leave without fear of losing their jobs. All of these measures are meant to help provide a safe environment for our Sheetz team members and customers.

Respect is at the core of Sheetz DNA and it is that respect for our ecosystem of employees, customers and communities that is driving our efforts during this difficult time. As you well know, Sheetz team members weather some pretty big storms, but these are unchartered waters for all of us. While we are driven to remain open and available to you, we will not jeopardize anyone’s health or safety in that effort and must follow the direction of local, state and federal health agencies and officials. As a last resort, some stores could close. At a minimum, you may experience staffing shortfalls, so we thank you for your support of our team members as they work tirelessly to continue to provide the TCF you are accustomed to at Sheetz.

Should you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to call our customer care line at 1(800) 487-5444. On behalf of the entire Sheetz family, I wish you and your family well as we all work through this challenging situation. Our hearts go out to anyone in your community affected by the virus. Thank you for being a loyal customer and we look forward to seeing you soon.
