I got a positive reaction to my buttons today!

I was in the grocery store looking around for dinner and one of the butchers there asked what my buttons said. He remarked about my Obama button first and asked what it was about him that I liked. Not yet knowing where he stood, I politely explained my progressive opinions and prepared for the worst. He listened to me for a minute and said that he didn't necessarily agree with everything I said, he agrees that President Obama is the best guy for the job. He said he didn't like Mitt Romney pretending to relate to the middle class and those who live paycheck to paycheck. We agreed that Mittens was a phony and then he asked about my vote no on the marriage amendment button. Once again I explained myself, and he said he admitted he wasn't sure if he was ready for gay marriage yet (I explained voting no doesn't make it legal) but agreed that placing a constitutional ban on it was unnecessary and not fair to the younger generation. Is it worth noting that he was a middle aged white guy? Demographics be damned. People who aren't racist assholes like President Obama.

I wanted to share this here because I felt so good after leaving the grocery store. Not everyone who has confronted me about my buttons has been half so nice. I'm making a happier dinner because of this encounter!

could get a Dogs Against Romney car magnet like mine. I live in a red area of MI so I was surprised. It is beginning to smell like 2008!

I think it is going to take these one-on-one interactions with undecided or "weak" voters to make the difference. Some people probably share some of the same concerns about RMoney but they are somewhat afraid to confront them or validate them. Providing "soft" opportunity to engage such as a button, a bumper sticker, etc. gives them an opening.
