Interesting conversation overheard in the barber shop

Went to get a haircut this morning. Old fashioned place not a salon.

5 other people in the office barbers included, all trump supporters as are most of the white males of my age group in Lake County. . The first thing I heard was one of the barbers explaining how the virus is and engineered disease made by combining SARS with the cold virus. I thought, here they go.

Then one of the said Trump is really screwing this up even though I support him. The guy who said it is a roofing contractor and an Airborne veteran if the stickers on his truck are to believed. I was shocked when they all agreed with him. My barber said I voted for him but if he does not get a handle on this he won’t be re-elected. I had said nothing the whole time because I generally do not engage in these types of scenarios. But my barber asked what I thought. All I said was that this is the first real crisis he did not create himself and you cannot bully or out tweet a virus. No one disagreed.

Now, they are all real concerned about the theme parks closing which would kill their businesses since we live in the Orlando area. Our economy is under tremendous threat.

Anyway, at least some of them have started questioning. I expected they all will end up voting for him but even if 5 percent of his base sits it out he is in trouble.

Thought I would share since it is the first time in 3 years I have heard any of his supporters questioning him at all.

He probably can't afford to lose 1% of his support. I don't see how he increased his base of support.

This morning dozens of college aged kids, white as vanilla ice cream, jogging through the park where I walk, heading for the beach. By Friday they will be lobster red, peeling and hung over.

I have a girlfriend from college who has one of those, I don't think her daughter has a clue about how she came about. Her mom has become this ultra conservative church lady. She sure wasn't that in the day.

But I'm sure he is worth it.

A lot of years ago I was in a group of women and one was scared to death her troubled teen daughter was going to end up pregnant. She expressed that it would be the worst possible thing that could possibly happen. I suggested to her that it would hardly be the worst thing. She couldn't see my point.

Today I'm watching my unplanned 15 month old granddaughter. My son always said he wasn't going to have kids. He sure does adore her, and so do I.

17. This is a good capsule summary

Short, easy to remember, and simple enough to be understood by even the most loyal Trumpists. Once they internalize it, it gets even more damaging to Trump: Yeah, he creates the crises that he "solves." And no, you can't just wave away natural phenomena like viruses, hurricanes, and earthquakes by bellowing "fake news!"

It wasn't made in a Lab. It was "made" in a Wuhan Wet Market by idiots eating exotic meats (Pangolin, Civet) to "balance their Chi" (AKA get a boner), which allowed it to cross over into humans from bats. Like using Rhino Horn powder, which has nearly wiped Rhino off the face of the Earth.

It isn't necessary to make it a Red Chinese plot. The truth is infuriating enough.

Starting next year no Disney employee will make less than $15.00 an hour and most make more than that now. And they have decent healthcare benefits that meet all the ACA requirements. They are unionized. Although they will still be hurting.

It’s the vastly larger group that work for smaller attractions and hotels who literally don’t have even one day of margin in their financial life.

This could get bad fast. I see nothing to prevent us from having to follow Italy’s lead to control this.

My Barber really liked Bill Clinton (there was more money and people tipped better in those days). Although a life long Republican he is a closet Democrat and hates Trump. He asked me (as resident retired teacher) to define fiction. I knew what he was referencing the work of fiction that laid out a scenario of a manufactured virus in 2020. I stated I did not think it was a grand conspiracy just a coincidence. My next observation “Whatever it is the response is a mess”. I was shocked by the agreement and vitriol against Trump whose name I never evoked. Yes, something is brewing at the barbershop cut old men’s hair their mouths loosen up.

The trumpets here are totally whacked. It makes B’ham look like a liberal mecca in comparison (actually B’ham is in a moderate blue congressional district).

Oh well, we enjoy the sea breezes from our back deck, going a mile down to the beach for sunsets and bushwackers at our favorite bar. Hopefully, FL will see the light of day and swing back blue in November. Now if only karma has her way and takes care of “gas mask gaetz!”

If local barber shops here where I'm contracted for work were good at their craft... I would patronize. But after about a half dozen cuts that were horrible (I have wavy thick hair that requires extensive work to look good)
I found the mexican beauty shop where the ladies take their time, color my whole hair, beard and everything... and most assuredly never a Trumper in sight.
