General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have someone arguing Trump has been better for women, blacks, poor last 3 yrs than Obama
in all 8 yrs. I googled and saw headline and seeing it is about the economy. Can someone help who is in the know so I do not have to do the research. I am assuming they are talking about the economy. Obama walked in to disaster. Took time to start mending. Growth was slow but progressively moved upward. Trump came in and adopted Obama economy continued to grow giving Trump the ability to make this statement. Is this correct?
Also, I read Trump is going after sanctuary cities. That is not a plus on his side.
He has certainly hurt ACA which is not a win for poor.
The racism and hate certainly hurts our women, gays and POC.
Any info would be appreciated.
Edit to add: When I read that from him I told him, DONE. Done done done. I was done. I often get there in conversation with him. But he says, facts, done because of facts and there are others reading my feed that are not so informed. Many Republicans that do not like or cannot stomach Trump but can vote Biden. This is for the other readers. It is not for this man. Long ago, I relegated him to, done.

(96,944 posts)why trump has reversed or trying to reverse the work done on women's rights and civil rights, not only by reversing much of the work President Obama accomplished, but also his supreme court and judicial appointments

(12,335 posts)...Big, big difference. But, since it's facts, they probably won't be interested in hearing it. Just leave the cult of personality alone. It's not worth it.

Otherwise, you're wasting your time if it's a hard core MAGAt.

(24,798 posts)does NOT mean that Trump is a friend to women, African-Americans, low-income workers, etc. Ask your friend what specific policies he has implemented that have made life substantively better for them. Just saying "the economy is good" isn't good enough, nor does it even mean that everybody is benefiting equally from it.

(10,935 posts)and Trump sexual assault and the disgust that he would say Trump was good for women. Then I considered the argument he was presenting that he was referring to economy. I like your point about what has Trump done specifically.

(82,849 posts)Understandable, because that's about the only metric that looks good at all for Trump. Point out how poorly the markets have been doing in the last two weeks. Then, point out that if the Dow Jones had been doing as well under Trump as it did under Obama to this date in each man's administration, the market would be over 34,000 today, instead of plummeting down to 26,000 and maybe below 26,000.
When the inevitable bleating comes out about how easy Obama had it and how unfair everything is for Trump, point out the 2008 financial sector meltdown that was bequeathed to Obama by the MBA president. If your correspondent doesn't want to engage on those terms, tell him you're not interested in a debate with someone so divorced from reality.

(3,548 posts)I think when Trump and his worshipers make that argument, they are speaking strictly about the low unemployment rate, which of course Trump takes all the credit for. But average monthly job growth was better in Obama's last three years than in Trump's first three, so even that doesn't hold water.
But the unemployment rate is not the only thing that matters. The administration's other policies -- hostility to reproductive rights, gutting of the social safety net, removal of environmental regulations, attempts to repeal the ACA, etc. -- are demonstrably bad for women, blacks and the poor (and many other people, too).

(10,935 posts)I imagine he will present exactly like you say. Over time, I have been reading, but I do not retain the same manner I did younger. I knew that they were saying this and there was a counter argument. This is what I was looking for. Thank you. I did not want ot read tons, to get here.

(56,842 posts)but, it does have the fact that almost the entire wage increase for the "working class" (or, the "Blue Collar Boom" that Trump and his toadies are touting) is due to minimum wage increases passed by Democrats at the state and local levels.
