How to use Clorox wipes (and how to wash your hands)

Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes

Wipe surface to be disinfected.

Keep surface wet for 4 minutes.

Let surface dry.

For highly soiled surfaces, clean excess dirt first.

For items that come in contact with food or mouths (like baby bottles or toys), rinse with warm water and let air-dry.

CDC suggests helping to reduce your risk of infection by doing the following:

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Additionally, if you have cold-like symptoms, you can help protect others by doing the following:

Stay home while you are sick.

Avoid close contact with others.

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.

Clean and disinfect objects and surfaces.

Singing it once only takes ~ 10 to 12 seconds, for me.

However; if you plan on being out in the public, (or someone in your family tests positive for the virus) you want sanitizing wipes that contain between 65-70% alcohol to kill this virus.

I believe that Clorox does make a product that fits this criteria:

Look for "alcohol based" wipes or hand sanitizers with a content as listed above.

While 70% isopropyl alcohol is a VERY effective killer (in seconds) for bacteria, viruses are less so, as there's no water in the virus to allow diffusion into the cytoplasm ( which a virus doesn't have). So, it takes way longer than "on contact".
Things like disinfecting wipes have an ionic charge with a quaternized nitrogen and a labile chlorine as the anion.
The chlorine can be liberated in contact with all, the lipid coating (reducing the virus' own protection), the protein head (denaturing), and can react with double bonds (lysis) of the nucleic acids in the RNA.
So, wipes with an active quat, which is nearly all wipes, are better on viruses.
The active ingredient we're looking for goes by a simple name of dimethyl benzylkonium chloride.

on hand washing which involved applying some particular substance to one's hands, then washing them as normal, then looking at them under a specialized light source... it really drove home how one's hands -- and even each finger/nail -- is a fucking english muffin (i.e. lots of nooks and crannies) when it comes to truly scrubbing your hands clean.

And even if you are just going to half-ass it, still wash your fucking hands as often as you can stand.
