I made the article readable by splitting the image in two:
I think the comparison to Roy Cohn made by the author in the 29 year old piece is fascinating! Interesting read that exposes much of what you probably already suspected about Barr.

We've all seen through Barr's act of being upset with the dump's actions and tweets. He's perfected this act over the years and it's served him well.
He needs to be tossed to the curb, but it's going to be up to the Democrats to find a way to do that.

(2,489 posts)And at the heart of today's Republican party is the simple belief that some people are inherently "better" and more deserving than other people. This memoir reveals a lot of details about what we already knew generally about Barr. That he's a bigot.
More apropos is that he embodies Trumpism, which is the Republican party's new ontological center.
So undemocratic and dangerous.

A quick Google search tells me the author of the piece has moved to Austin. He posted this column on Feb. 12 on his facebook page, where he also has a photo of himself with Hillary Clinton as well as Jimmy competing in a Spinal Tap air guitar contest.
Here's a Youtube video of Jimmy on the guitar. He's posted several like it.

Apparently around 1996, Gannet acquired it and they changed the name to the FSView. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FSView_%26_Florida_Flambeau
I haven't read the Flambeau since I graduated from FSU in 1977.

(2,489 posts)Unfortunately, Gannett purchased the Flambeau and the FSView in 2006 as part of their for-profit portfolio.
I hope they still do good work, but Gannett has a way of sucking resources out of all its properties.
Gannett tried to purchase the Rocky Mountain Collegian at Colorado State University in 2008, but my students fought it, and we successfully turned the Collegian and its related media CTV, KCSU and College Avenue magazine into a non-profit corporation that would guarantee the students' right to choose content, which is the Independent Florida Alligator model. (Full disclosure: I'm a UF graduate. Go Gators.)

(34,189 posts)AS part of their "Football is KING" philosophy. That's why I will never donate to the FSU Foundation - instead I donate to the individual schools, such as Information Technology (used to be Library Science) or Social Sciences. Since my two majors were in Library Science and Anthropology, I want to support them.
I was at FSU when the Seminoles lost over 20 games in a row and was involved in the petition to remove football from their sport lineup. Unfortunately, Bobby Bowden managed to turn them around and they won consistently for the rest of the time I was there. I only keep track of the games so I can avoid going near town on home game days.

(2,489 posts)It was part of my job at the Gainesville Sun to keep an eye on the "enemy," so to speak.
And you're right about college football and its bizarre hold on major universities. This is not the forum for such a conversation, but unless and until football simply fades away, my belief is that all major college football should be turned into a professional minor league operation that still plays its games at campus stadiums but that is entirely made up of "professional football apprentices," players who have no obligation to go to school but would receive a stipend to do so when their football career ends. It's complicated, but it could be done.

(34,189 posts)I'd started at a small private college (Florida Presbyterian, now Eckerd College) and transferred up here in January 1972. I'd drive out to a horse stable out in the National Forest to ride. Fall quarter (remember the quarter system?) I went out to ride, but when I got back into town, I couldn't get back to campus. All the roads were re-directed or blocked off and that was my first quarter of driving in Tallahassee so I had a hard time finding my way.
When I got back to the dorm, I asked a friend what was going on and she said, "Oh, it's just the first game of the season." I asked what game and she explained about football. Until then I hadn't even known FSU had a team! Fla Pres's big claim to fame was their sailing and their bridge team (now they have a basketball team). If I'd known how much FSU valued football over academics I probably would not have come here.

(2,489 posts)I was a KU fan when I taught there, but as a Nebraska grad (the only Power Six conference school never to win an NCAA Tournament basketball game), I'm a little tired of KU's success and the entitled attitude of its fans. Nothing personal, I'm just jealous.
I taught at CSU for 10 years but was ousted by the president after "FUCK BUSH" in 2007-08, so I have bittersweet memories of that place. I also taught at CU Boulder and just retired from the state in 2017 after 27 years. I'm at the University of Iowa now.

(85,190 posts)EX-WHITE HOUSE OFFICIAL HIRED BY BCCI FIGURE
By Ann Devroy and Sharon Walsh
October 24, 1991
...
But Sununu last night denied he oversaw any group monitoring BCCI probes, and acting Attorney General William P. Barr denied Sununu or anyone at the White House tried to influence their probes. "The notion that anyone at the White House has attempted to influence BCCI investigations is utter nonsense," Barr said.
Robert S. Mueller, the assistant attorney general who oversees the BCCI probes, also issued a statement last night denying Sununu tried to exert influence. He said Sununu has had "no communications" with anyone at the Justice Department on BCCI matters.
Adham, a Middle Eastern businessman with ties to the Saudi royal family, is one of six shareholders of First American Bank's parent company who federal regulators say acted as fronts for BCCI. Adham, through Washington lawyer Plato Cacheris, has denied that and has said he owns about 13 percent of the shares of First American.
In July, the Fed sought a record $200 million fine against BCCI after finding that it secretly owned First American Bankshares. It also sought at that time to permanently bar Adham and other First American shareholders from any U.S. banking activity. Adham also is said to be one of BCCI's biggest debtors, with hundreds of millions of dollars in delinquent loans from the bank.
