Happy Birthday, Susan B. Anthony!

I grew up in the town Ms. Anthony was born in, Adams, Mass. used to drive by the house all the time.

It is a small town and ironically despite her huge contribution to suffrage, the statue in the downtown is of William McKinley for no other reason than he liked to frequently vacation in Adams. Now that I think of it, that’s pretty terrible. Lol

Happy Birthday Susan B. ! She was also an abolitionist and fought all her life to give women the right to vote. Unfortunately she died in 1906, never seeing the results of all her hard work. Women were not granted the right to vote until 1920.

Shortly before her death at the age of 86, she told her friend, Anna Shaw "To think I have had more than 60 years of hard struggle for a little liberty, and then to die without it seems so cruel."

Here's to you, Susan B. Anthony. We all owe you so much! We have come so far, but our progress started with the work you began.

I had her picture sitting next to me on the morning of my graduation from college. I could hardly put on my mascara because of all the tears.

Talking about tears, I really, Really thought that we would have a female president before the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. . . On the other hand, one of the reasons that I had come to believe that was because we had a black president before hell froze over.

Thank for sharing that quote from Anthony. We really have come so far. My best friend told me today that 50 years ago, her mother--who had given birth to four children--needed permission from her husband in order to have her tubes tied.

Every woman and person of color or soul whose identity is defined differently than the narrow mainstream standard needs to take a quick look at history, (or the current news), and vow to vote come hell or high water. We cannot allow our rights to be eroded.

WE ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS, dammit!

Our bodies, our minds, our life choices and our futures belong to us, not the state, the church, or the Old Boy Network. . . Or The Man. We should never forget about The Man.
