Spanish-language absentee ballot instructions sent to Milwaukee voters with wrong date for primary

The Milwaukee Election Commission sent Spanish-language absentee ballot instructions to 2,038 voters incorrectly listing the date of the spring primary as Feb. 20.

The primary takes place Feb. 18.

Election Commission Executive Director Neil Albrecht told the Journal Sentinel the letters were probably sent between Jan. 28 and Jan. 30, with some on Jan. 31.

Due to a transition in the Election Commission's absentee ballot coordinator position, the Spanish letter was sent without proper proofing, Albrecht said.

2. Fire whom ever sent it.

These little "errors/mistakes" are no longer acceptable. It takes SECONDS to proof a date.

4. Blatant election rigging. Election board should have to resend correct dates to entire list.

5. I have had experience dealing with the Milwaukee Election Commission

This is a very well run agency that has done a great job of administering elections in spite of the challenges a city like Milwaukee presents. I have never seen evidence of actions that could be called partisan interference in voting rights.

6. Then they need to check the printers.

It could be just one person who changed it.

8. I think NOT changing it was the problem

The primary was on February 20 in 2018. Someone probably took the Spanish text from that one and overlooked changing the date for this year. Who among us has never done something like that? And the usual process of getting out absentee ballots was complicated by a controversy over whether two candidates should be removed from the ballot because their nomination signatures were insufficient.

7. The Spanish word for this is:

"Los Republicanos."

Well, unless you prefer synonyms like "pendejos," or "cabrones," or any one of an even more vulgar assortment....

9. Easy solution

Keep all the results of the February 18 election sealed until February 20th. Those who received the wrong date notices should be allowed to vote February 20th. Then after the election closes February 20th, then all the results of local and state elections shall release their reporting. Fair is fair!
