...they do not want the House to do any more investigations. It's a bluff.
Of course, I could be wrong and they could start putting people in jail tomorrow?
But, I think they are scared to death of what might come out with further investigations.

(25,342 posts)That's what all of this was about from the beginning. I think that's still the plan.
They know that it's not about to stop House investigations. They're dumb, but they're not that dumb.

(25,342 posts)The primary motivation seems to be to remove him as a potential opponent in November. There are all kinds of secondary motives, including, as you noted, some perceived payback.
Another head-shaker about this entire administration. Everyone has a score to settle, and that's always more important than doing anything constructive.

(3,955 posts)appeal to Trump's base even more so. It's red meat for his red state base. See, 'owning' the libs takes many forms, none more cogent than claiming all kinds of false things, therefore demanding more investigations. Keep in mind not only Graham's attacks but also Grassley's newly launched investigations of the Biden's, where Barr's recent memo has also essentially killed any new political investigations by any Federal branch w/o his explicit prior approval. Sad times, indeed!

(5,267 posts)He pushed charges against McCabe but DOJ seems to have been unable to get a GJ to indict McCabe but they haven't let him off the hook yet either. Trump has wanted charges against Comey and Strzok and Page too but Strzok and Page have sued DOJ for privacy violations and McCabe has pending lawsuit over his politically timed termination so close to retirement eligibility. Realistically there are not any feasible criminal charges against anyone involved in Russia investigation.
These bogus investigations implying wrongdoing by those on Trump's namecalling enemies list are also a distraction from the upcoming sentencing later this month of Roger Stone and Michael Flynn.
Ridiculous how so many officials seem to be running around to satisfy unreasonable dictatorial whims of unleashed Trump who will never be satisfied as long as he hasn't gotten revenge over the Russia investigation.

(16,254 posts)We don't have enough experience with this new Repuke party. We don't know how far Barr will go to get what he feels will buy him more praise from the King. After all, he seems to have a private line to what his daughter and son-in-law learn from their jobs. Hell of a deal. If you look at what they have done since the "acquittal" you will see Barr barring any investigations on political campaigners/campaigns, which has little to do with Democratic campaigns, but I think he's protecting Trump's campaign. He has the roadblocks up, the investigators flying around the world (even South Bend?) and the threats going out on Twitter. Barr is sucking up too much power and needs to be reined in.
It will be interesting to see if Mulvaney is fired on Monday. I'm shocked he hasn't quit by now. Will Bolton be sued? What will they do to Mitt? What can he do to Pelosi? She's so much stronger than Trump and he can't get to her, legally.
Trump must be having his jollies this weekend over the options before him. He must be feeling like Kim Jong-un, all pompous and proud.
