Beijing begins mass arrest of suspected virus patients...

As of Saturday more than 700 people have been killed by the virus, with 86 people dying on Friday alone. Eighty-six people die of virus in a DAY in China as Beijing starts rounding up sufferers and videos show hazmat suit-clad goons dragging people from their homes while death toll hits 724. More than 34,500 globally have been infected.

A video, said to be taken in Suzhou near Shanghai, shows suspected coronavirus sufferers being forcefully dragged from their homes by officials in hazmat suits. On Thursday China's Vice Premier Sun Chunlan called for a 'people's war' against the fast-spreading epidemic.

Last week China's central government ordered the city - which is the epicentre of the virus - to round up all suspected patients as well as their close contacts in mass quarantine camps. The city of Wuhan has around 14 million residents, but it remains unknown how many people will be quarantined or where they would be kept.

Wuhan officials are now carrying out door-to-door health checks to identify potential carriers who would need to be isolated.

Vice Premier Sun demanded four types of people in Wuhan be put into mandatory isolation in quarantine stations: confirmed cases, suspected cases, people who have close contact with the former two, and those who have fever.

A vaccine will not be ready until at least 2021.

7. More people died of flu in the US last year as well

I was on Face Time with someone in Shanghai earlier and she said citizens and officials are being very careful - temperatures are being taken as a precaution when you come and go from apartment complexes.
Most of the sick people are still in Wuhan. More people live in Wuhan city than in New York and the state population is 50 million.

Do you get a flu shot?

And if someone in your family has coronavirus, do you worry that you might get pneumonia? Do you get.a coronavirus shot?

Oh wait, there isn’t one of those. And if you’re on a cruise ship and someone gets the flu, do they quarantine the whole ship?

16. I've never had a flu shot in my life - I live in the Caribbean

I actually caught my first cold in four years two or three weeks ago - the temperature dropped and I didn't close the windows. It lasted three days - I exercise daily, eat citrus several times a day, and eat very healthy food.
I really don't worry about getting sick. I am thankful that I can still walk 20K a week and exercise for an hour after that. One day something will happen and that will all end.

Let me tell you my greatest observation since I retired - I don't get colds as often as in the past which means I was in enclosed rooms with sick students for decades and had way more colds back then so I am fully aware contagious illnesses.
As a child mom had the chicken pox in the house under control until dad caught it and spread it to the rest of us.

I am not obsessing about coronavirus or any other virus.
One more thing -I come from generations of rational people and we have no problems with vaccines but flu shot aren't part of Caribbean culture because we don't have winter here.

13. The curent death rate is about 15 times as high as influenza.
Sat Feb 8, 2020, 10:25 PM

We'll know more in hindsight, obviously. But currently the death rate calculated by # of dead / # of infections is around 2%. It's been holding steady at that rate for a while, but probably reflects the earlier (significantly smaller number of) infections. So right now the deaths are from a much smaller pool of infected patients - so I expect to see the death rate go up.

Of the first 138 patients admitted to the hospital in Wuhan, 4.3% died. My guess is it will settle out above where it is now, but not as high as 4.3%

But using the 2% death rate, and an average .13% death rate for influenza, it is 15 times as deadly. (The death rates for influenza vary from year to year - but all are between .1 and .2% (putting the death rate of the corona virus between 10 and 20 times as high as the seasonal flu)

Furthermore, you just know they won't be getting optimal treatment, so most will probably due because of this roundup.

9. Military preparing quarantine centers for coronavirus patients in US, Pentagon says

Feb 2020

Eleven military bases near major airports in the United States are setting up quarantine centers for possible coronavirus patients, the Department of Defense said.

The Department of Health and Human Services asked the Pentagon for quarantine space in case beds fill up at other coronavirus centers around the country, according to a DOD statement.

The Pentagon already agreed to house up to 1,000 people for quarantine after they returned to the United States from areas with the virus, the Associated Press reports.

It’s way too late. Just take what they are reporting and multiply by 100. They always think they can “manage” it and then when it explodes they scramble. Don’t believe a word they say.
