DHS suspends Global Entry, Trusted Traveler Programs for New York residents in response to sanctuary law
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/dhs-suspends-global-entry-trusted-traveler-programs-for-new-york-residents-in-response-to-sanctuary-law/ar-BBZHvqU Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf exclusively told Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight" Wednesday that DHS was immediately suspending Global Entry and several other Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) for all New York state residents -- a dramatic move in response to the liberal state's recently enacted sanctuary "Green Light Law."
The sweeping order came a day after President Trump, in his State of the Union address, condemned left-wing states and local governments that "release dangerous criminal aliens to prey upon the public," and called on Congress to pass a law establishing civil liability for sanctuary cities. In a letter to top New York state officials obtained exclusively by Fox News, Wolf noted that the New York law prohibited state DMVs from sharing criminal records with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). ... As a result, New York residents "will no longer be eligible to enroll or re-enroll" in select TTPs -- including Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, and FAST. Wolf noted that TTP "permits expedited processing into the U.S. from international destinations (under Global Entry); Canada only (under NEXUS); and Canada and Mexico only (under SENTRI)." Additionally, TTP allows quicker processing for commercial truck drivers entering or leaving the U.S. (under FAST). He’s already exacting revenge

1. This will never hold up in a court of law unless they rescind it for all states.
I expect a lawsuit from New York state to be filed on Thursday or Friday related to this.

Those IDs are expensive.

5. As a result of protecting immigrants from ICE, DHS will stop NYers from these programs
TSA pre check greatly speeds going thru security in airports and global entry is a similar process for expediting arriving back in the US after a trip overseas

9. On the Mexican border a SENTRI card can mean the difference between waiting hours or minutes
to cross.

12. They do it randomly as a kind of 'demonstration'.
You get to exp how efficient it is (it really is if you do even a modicum of domestic flying).
Basically, you put your name and info in TSAs system once to prove your not a terrorist and tell them who you are, pay 90 bucks, and, and then dont have to fuck with standing in lines or taking your shoes off for like 5 years. As long as you've got the right documents in hand, it takes about a week to get finished after a 20 minute appointment. Global Entry, on the other hand, can take MONTHS to get processed, depending on the airport you're signing up at. Those people in New York who put in the effort to get this done are gonna be nine KINDS of pissed if this becomes An Actual Thing. |

8. iM not quite sure i understand
I have global entry, it required a major background check and an interview with CBP. If this law prevents the government from doing the standard background checks for Global Entry then i sort of get it. But Im not sure i understand the new law. I do know that the article says it does not apply to TSA precheck

13. The administration wants to rescind Global Entry privledges 4 New Yorkers as punishment for being a
'sanctuary city/state'. So if you have this and happen to live in New York, the admins stance is 'fuck you (and the time you put in to get this) for being a Good Person.
Its bullshit and somebody's gonna sue the ever living fuck out of them if they actually do this. |
