Our next president should recall that gentleman's early days as Voivode.
His father, Vlad The Dragon, and older brother Mircea The Bad had been murdered in rather nasty manners in the power struggle between the Voivode and Boyars.
When Vlad assumed the Wallachian throne, he innocently asked how many Voivodes the Boyars had served under. Most of them proudly stated that they had had their titles before the reign of his father. This let our merry lad know just which ones were responsible for his family's deaths.
The Boyars "experienced some things" at that year's Easter feast. The most merciful was being force-marched in chains to Poenari Birchu en Arges to serve as slave labor rebuilding the Drakula family's old fortress there.
We won't talk about the ones that had bad things happen to them.
Such tidbits of political history do give one something to think about in difficult times, and serve as reminders of past courses of action.
