@mkraju
Sen. Ben Sasse, who has not said much during the trial, told reporters: Let me be clear; Lamar speaks for lots and lots of us.
I asked if he believes then that Trump acted inappropriately, Sasse didnt answer

(82,849 posts)You acknowledge that the House accurately identified the impeachable offenses, provided sufficient evidence - even without additional testimony or documentation - to convince you that the accusations had merit, but you won't vote to hear more evidence or to remove Trump from office. That about capture it?
So let's go from the other direction: What would it take for you to vote to remove Trump from office? How far would his abuse of power and obstruction of Congress have to go for you to say, "That's it, Trump's gotta go!" We know from your statements that holding up aid to Ukraine, a hold up that cost brave Ukrainians their lives wasn't enough. We know that you don't consider Trump's complete stonewalling of any production of documents or testimony at all was enough. I'm not sure how much more Trump could have done to obstruct Congress. He utterly, categorically, and completely refused to provide the House with any information or furnish witnesses at all. In addition, Trump made numerous public statements at odds with his constitutional obligations, indicating that he stone-walled the House with full knowledge of his obstruction.
So, Ben, what's missing from the House articles of impeachment and Trump's actions that would have tipped the scales for you to say he must be removed from office?

(11,605 posts)Maybe the Democrats should try that next. If they can get a majority for censure at least Trump can't claim exoneration. But I bet these Republicans are too spineless to vote for it, although I feel like they kind of put themselves in a box with statements like this.
