I think Mitch is regretting at least one decision...

The whole "one camera, one feed" thing may be having an unintended consequence:

The television audience is riveted on the presentations. We realized it as we were watching tonight- there were NO distractions.

We didn't comment on any of the watching Senators' responses, we didn't wonder what that doodad on so-and-so's desk was, or anything like that.

Instead, we heard every single word of the case as it was being laid out, with no distractions, no loss of focus. We saw the logic, the connections being clearly pointed out. We saw every second of the testimony that the Senate isn't being allowed to consider (::snicker, snicker:: ).

We saw the gravity and the passion on the faces of the speakers. We heard every nuance of the irony or horror in their words.

Mitch may have done his best to keep his colleagues from hearing anything that will pierce their bubble of denial and complicity...

...but on thousands and thousands of living-room sofas, on millions of screens with an American citizen sitting in front of them...

...WE caught every word.

And I suspect that's *precisely* what the Democratic managers and the leadership had in mind.

Nice going, Mitch, you sorry bag of decaying offal.

appreciatively,
Bright

1. I sincerely hope that this is just the first of many decisions that he'll regret!

Couldn't happen to a more deserving SOB.

i'm getting slightly optimistic knowing that there is an idiot pulling the strings here.

7. That is interesting and I think you're right

I just watched Schiff’s closing but had mostly been listening before now.

You described it perfectly, I have nothing to add

15. The House Managers have been prosecuting Trump to the nation. That's why they have TV clips,

and PowerPoint slides for gosh sakes.
The TV talking heads keep talking about how they are aiming at certain Senators but this is a TV presentation for a nationwide audience.
They are winning the hearts and minds of the voters.

16. Mitch will hopefully regret

Ever running for senate in the first place.

Republicans are slowly losing their stranglehold on Kentucky. Very slowly... and Mitch is directly at fault. History won't be kind.

18. when we look back on how he handled this

I think the assessment will be that he made a lot of mistakes. This is just one, but it's an important one. It focused the audience.

Other mistakes:

a) speaking out beforehand, saying he just wanted to get the trial over with and that he and Trump were working hand in glove.
This may be the single dumbest thing anyone ever did in the history of humankind.

b) denying Senators anything but lousy coffee and milk. I'm aware this is a Senate rule, but I think he could have done something about it.

c) Likewise, allowing for such a brief time for a dinner break.

d) Trying to rush through the proceedings. The Senate never does anything on a timely basis, according to Claire McCaskill (sp?). By setting up such a tight schedule and not being able to adhere to it, he comes off as someone who can't meet a goals.

There are other mistakes, but this is what comes to mind at this point.
