We've been witness to speaker after speaker knocking it out of the park with passion, intelligence, humor, and oh...facts!

(58,179 posts)Nothing in all the history of Democratic conventions will ever top the simple, terrible, heart-shattering beauty of Robert Kennedy standing before the convention in 1964, unable to speak for minute after minute after minute, because the assembly simply would not stop cheering him and his fallen brother John.
That will never be topped.
P.S. William Jennings Bryan could give a good speech, too, I hear.

(7,572 posts)....I've never seen a better production as the one we have seen this week in Charlotte. Every aspect has gone smoothly, (from what I can see) no long and boring waits, most of the speakers are outstanding, some even superlative, each piece flows into the next presentation with music, testimonials, videos, speakers, each adding to the picture of a renewed and reinvigorated political party. Whoever were the managers, producers, writers, behind the scenes should be rewarded with recognition. I even think they've provided speaking coaches for some of these guys, who have never sounded so good but have been around awhile!!!

(31,978 posts)Bryan's 'Cross of Gold' speech in '96 and the Dixiecrats being booted in 1948. Speeches were intellectually far superior to modern politicking.

(33,688 posts)This is the best! Every speech stellar and on point. Every video the same. Have seen all from '68.
A wealthy repug (non social conservative ) visited me tonight and bemoaned that he would have to pay more taxes, because he is screwed by this convention. I offered him a drink and consoled him that he could well afford it and his beloved neighbor (me) wouldn't be impoverished by a Mitt win.
I was surprised that he was even keeping current with the convention, given that he only watches Pox Noise when he rarely checks in on current events.
Wish it could go on for another week.

(154,021 posts)And no I am not kidding.
The last convention with real fire was in the 1960s, but especially after Watergate... nope, and Reagan really stole their thunder and all that.
Something is happening in Democratic land...

(6,160 posts)Others have had their memorable moments, but I have never seen one produced so well with so many outstanding speakers hitting all the right marks.
I have been watching conventions since 1968. Long time!
My congratulations to the Democratic Party. I am extremely proud!
