Remember This

We have all seen/heard of former Trump voters who have expressed their regret for having supported him. We’ve heard from the farmers losing their family-owned farms due to Trump’s tariff wars, from the coal workers who were promised their industry would be made viable again, from factory workers who were told their jobs were secure but who are now unemployed – the list goes on.

Now, when was the last time you heard any voter say, “I voted against Trump in 2016 – but now that I’ve seen his accomplishments while in office, I’m definitely behind him in 2020.”

The only base that is shrinking is the Trump base. The only party suffering from defections is the Republican party. The only people willing to vote against their usual party affiliation are those who traditionally vote GOP, and are now having second thoughts about where their party is headed – and the fact that their party is not defending its pOTUS by producing the facts, witnesses, and documents that would exonerate him is looking increasingly like a cover-up of his obvious guilt.

Remember that there are defectors – and they’re ALL defecting from one side.

2. GOP defectors are political refugees and

should be welcomed with open arms.

Ask them what de-programmed them, what led them back into the light; might be some hints as to how to tear down Trump irrevocably.

Is it the negative effect he has had on their lives, the promises not kept, the fact he is an equal opportunity abuser, a thrice married pretend Christian? A war mongering peacenik?

Or maybe the Kool-Aid is starting to wear off? And that the Promised Rapture is nowhere in sight? Enquiring minds want to know!

Thanks for this excellent post! We must promote American solidarity.

3. But let us not forget those who when asked about the con's accomplishments go

bah, bah, bah, bah...I don't know, I just support him...but yes, that is a minority.

As always Nance, you make great points, and always eloquent.

5. What is scary is watching his followers at his rallies, their adoration and enthusiasm.

There are still way too many supporters and we can't let down our guard.

Those have to be the hardcore clowns who can find no wrong in Trump. They are beyond help.

Enjoy and welcome the defectors, but beware.

6. I honestly think a lot of that is actors.

I know there are his hardcore fans but I believe he has a lot of paid actors in his crowds that help whip up the regular nutjobs.

9. All I ever see at his rally is

Creeps who epitomize being juiced up hate mongers of the 10th degree.

40 to 50 million voters who are so politically ignorant they sound like that MAGA interviewed on the street recently......

10. His rallies clear out towards the end

A good 30-40% of his audience at the Klan rallies gets bored and leaves after a while. I honestly think a good number of them go expecting to hear great things, but leave after he spends 90 minutes acting like a clown and bragging about himself. I think there are a good number of people who leave his rallies and won't vote for him because of what they heard there. He's got not one ounce of human decency in him, that comes across at these hate rallies.

7. Thank you for making this point

The stress of it all has been getting to me and I feel welcome relief over whatever scrap of encouragement someone puts forward.

11. I caught a bit of a TV show

Can’t remember which one but the guy said he voted for Obama twice but was now backing trump because he has a good job in a steel mill and all of his coworkers are doing the same. I’m sure he was lying because it sounded so scripted.

12. I've noticed this underreported phenomenon, as well

Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that everything about the 2016 election was on the up and up. Trump won the electoral college vote while losing the popular vote by 2.8 million voters. That's a three-rail billards shot of a hail mary half court heave Kirk Gibson home run runner-runner draw to an inside straight.

What has Trump done to draw more voters to his campaign? Who are these voters? After all the efforts the media have expended to find Trump voters who have suffered greatly the last three years but who are resolutely standing by their man, I haven't seen any stories about new recruits to the Trump Train. If they were out there, I'd think the media would parade them around like the best-in-show at Westminster.

14. When I feel hopeless, I remind myself

that he "won" by razor thin margins.

He isn't gaining new support. If we vote, we win.

16. He will not get one more vote than 2016

And the total of votes for someone other than Trump was 10 million. There will be no Russia funded Jill Stein in this one.

17. I actually do

Only 2. Hard core conservative bordering on libertarian that we’re convinced by Glenn Beck that he wasn’t really conservative. They voted 3rd party last time, big time MAGA now. Such a shame

19. When I see crowds at a Trump rally

I don't see voters, instead I see a crowd of people who were given free tickets to a football match, and they are barracking for their team.

But my wife gives me hope. She was a staunch follower of a local team that won year on year. Then they started to lose, and her enthusiasm waned, gone off the game altogether. Doesn't want to talk about that, though.

Gives me hope Team Trump supporters will lose their enthusiasm.

Promises not delivered, not enough runs on the board, that sort of thing. The other team scores more, your team just went sour. Coach sucks, too many good players went off to greener pastures, etc.

But the defectors will keep quiet about it, too embarrassed, or something.

EDIT: Anyway, who would want to barrack for a team that has an insane head coach who makes unachievable claims, and has a turtle as a mascot?

20. Unfortunately, I remember 2007 and 2008.

Back then there were lots of reports of people who'd voted for W in 2000 and were now steadfastly against him. And so, of course, he lost the 2004 election. Didn't he? Oh. Never mind.

My point is that these anecdotal reports are meaningless. Until November 3 of this year, they are stories, pure and simple. Just as we heard all those stories back in 2004.
