Hold the cheering on Romney withdrawing advertising

Super Pacs supporting him will be doing the dirty work and those PACs have roughly 10x more money than their Dem counterparts.

Romney campaign to 'carpet bomb' airwaves after Obama nomination speech

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior Romney-Ryan campaign officials tell Fox News the campaign will launch an enormous media offensive on Friday, the day after President Obama accepts the Democratic Party's nomination for a second term. The push will include ad buys in several states that will cost tens of millions of dollars.

Aides said more than a dozen new ads, each tailored to different regions and segments of the electorate, will begin airing Friday, aimed at dramatically shifting the dynamics of a contest that Romney-Ryan aides acknowledge, in terms of the hard realities of the electoral map, have until now favored the Obama-Biden ticket.

"Time is short," said one campaign aide. "We have $100 million we've just raised. If you look at our burn rate to date and our cash on hand, there's not much more we can spend on infrastructure. So we've got to start spending our general election funds in a big way, because you know what the value of that money is on the day after the election? Zero."

Former New Hampshire Governor John Sununu, an adviser to the Romney campaign, said this week that its strategy going forward will be to "carpet bomb" the president and vice president.

Romney-Ryan officials did not repudiate such talk; indeed, one official, in speaking to Fox News, likened the offensive that will begin Thursday to the "daisy cutter" bombs used in the Iraq war.

The "independent" PACs have dropped the same three states, so it is good news for PA, MI and WI.

It's remote control demolition. Same thing. Romney drones are dropping bombs on the POTUS's campaign. And it will all. be. lies.

Unlike B-52 bombers, drones do precision strikes. Very different from carpet bombing, which involves saturating an entire area with hundreds or thousands of bombs.

Thanks for skipping some, though. But maybe you can annoy enough voters in the other eight to swing at least a couple of those states.

the big money millionaire backers are seeing the epic failure of the RomneyRyan campaign and cutting their PAC losses? Its one thing to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to win an election, but its a another thing to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to lose an election.

were unconstitutional and were stopped dead in their tracks. Perhaps the strategy depended on those laws being there. Maybe the repubs underestimated how many states would be affected, maybe thinking only 1 or maybe 2 states' laws would be overturned. I'm hoping that is the case...

The Super PACs have to pay the highest rate on the station to get their spots on the air. The candidates can get what's called the Lowest Unit Rate for their spots, but not the Super PACs or any non-candidate ad. I feel pretty good about this. Those stations (mine included) will be making and taking more money from these guys. Wasted money in my opnion!

People will burn out on negative ads from groups with generic names that feature claims that maybe dont seem 100% legit. I've seen some weak ones down here in FL.

This wont turn out the Independent voter, this will confuse them a little or just make them mad that ads are we see.

We always knew they would pour money down the sink hole.

I love the idea of them spending 100 million on a losing proposition.

I hope it really stings, causes much finger pointing, and speeds the demise of a very strange coalition.
